Rustic ceramics, tableware, home decor and more.
Find the beautiful bowl to serve your dishes or a unique coffee cup to start your day with happiness. Take a look at my special ring dishes and earthy baking dishes, carved portrait coffee and tea cups, decorated flower vases, nature inspired porcelain jewelry and ceramic wall art.

I'm Shelly and ShellyClayspot is my little spot in the beautiful country of Israel where I have my ceramic studio.
I enjoy so many different handmade ceramic techniques, but one of my favorites is sgraffito designs. This is a form of vessel or plate decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color, typically done in plaster or stucco on walls, or in slip on ceramics before firing.

Shelly was extremely generous by adding on a decorative charm to the gift box that my ring holder came in. There was an issue with being able to track the package (not her fault!) and she immediately replied and sent me a new product. The ring dish is beautiful, well made, and I will definitely be supporting this shop in the future. She worked so well with me and was kind and went above and beyond in customer service.

This was a very important Christmas gift for my daughter. I never received it and on top of that disappointment I was charged the $9.00 shipping charge, just to make it feel a little worse! Very unhappy and I will never trust Etsy for Christmas present buying again. I ordered on 12/9 and thought that was sufficient time. I was wrong. sincerely kathleen rohner

Hi Kathleen, Like you, I'm terribly upset that your package hasn't arrived yet. I'm not sure I understand why you would leave a negative review in my shop, when I did everything I could to get your daughter's Christmas gift to you by the 25th. But I guess you had to express your disappointment somewhere :-( I refunded you immediately for the dish, but the shipping cost was paid to the post office already, therefore it is not refundable according to my shop policies. I sent the package on December 5th via Israeli Eco Post which is usually an extremely reliable service - in fact the other packages I shipped the same day to USA arrived within 11 days to their destination. I was certain that yours would too. Unfortunately I have no control once the package has left my hands. Regards and Happy New Year, Shelly

About

I believe my love for ceramics is expressed in my ware and allows the user a unique experience.

Do you remember the first time you fell in love with an activity? Was it running? The theater? sewing or gardening? I began my exploration of creating with clay more than 15 years ago. I dabbled in free form and wheel throwing and it caused a stirring in my soul. Once I started to play with mud I knew I arrived home. I’m thrilled that you are here and want to share my story with me.
I enjoy creating unusual, well-defined ceramic forms for you to place lovingly in your favorite living space. I use many processes in my work, but I am especially intrigued by the “Sgrafitto” technique. It is a very old technique in which images are made by scratching through a surface of the clay to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color. The technique was created in Europe a thousand years ago and served as the primary method for wall paintings in churches and public places. The use of the method eventually declined and many of its secrets were lost.
I’m proud to be able reveal the secrets once again and to breathe new life into this art form especially for you! You won’t see it in very many other shops here on Etsy.

The act of most ceramic methods is very meditative, and ironically, my first use of Sgraffito came after meditating. During the meditation I envisioned the shape of an unusual treasure chest made of cylinders. The actual chest was carved with images of 3 generations of my family. At that point I was sure that I loved to do Sgraffito .When you look at my finished piece you will be able to sense movement in my work – movement that mimics the whir of the wheel, and my hands moving up and down as they form the vessel and the scratching out of the lovely picture. You’ll realize how I nurture the clay as the wheel spins until I make the piece come to life! The potter’s wheel, the piercing and scratching knives, the slip, the glaze and more – these tools enable me to successfully achieve my intent: to translate beauty to a plain lump of clay.
It will be obvious to you from my Sgraffito pieces that I am drawn to iconography. My inspiration for the visual images and symbols used in my work of iconography art is nature and authentic human figures and forms around the world. You can see that for example here: https://www.etsy.com/il-en/listing/255470894/white-porcelain-coffee-cup-coffee-tea here: https://www.etsy.com/il-en/listing/245674260/salt-or-pepper-cellar-with-lid-ceramic and here: https://www.etsy.com/il-en/listing/243701897/ceramic-baking-dishhandmade-round-baking
If you are like me, then you can never get enough of images of people and things in all the world's cultures. In addition to carving my pottery with images of people from around the world, I am a nature lover and also incorporate birds, leaves, seed pods and more. It makes me feel good to think that these images might arouse memories of your childhood, your happy occasions and possibly YOUR meditative experiences!

In my work I am the consummate professional. But truth be told, I’m also a mom, wife and a sentimental sap, and I can’t WAIT for you to excitedly unwrap your order, hold it in your hands, and jump for joy about your one-of-a-kind piece that just arrived from Shelly in Israel! For me that will mean that my translation of beauty and nature will have arrived “home”.

Due to the inherent properties of stoneware, there may be small imperfections and irregularities which should not be perceived as defective. Variations in materials, firing temperatures, and imprint pigments may result in variation in glaze and imprint colors. These variations are normal and I will assume acceptable by you.

★★★★★ Please read my refund policies above regarding Custom Orders.
