This item came about a week ago - good shipping time! But just today was I allowed to leave a comment. I love this little sweater! My daughter had one like it when she was little & this is for my granddaughter & it is so much prettier! I wish I could knit, but I am so thankful for Etsy so I can have homemade items!

About

The Birth of a Hobby

I used to knit only scarves. Mostly because this was all I knew how to do, just some basic stitches. I didn't even know how to change colours! But eventually making scarves just got boring. I was working at a children's clothing store at the time, and looking at all the adorable little sweaters really inspired me. I decided that it was about time that I expanded my abilities. About a week later, I finished my first little sweater, and I haven't looked back since! I continued to teach myself more knitting techniques, and in time also began learning to crochet. Every so often I still get bouts of inspiration, and I cannot resist the urge to learn something new. That is what I love about craft - no matter how much you know, you can always learn more!

After a while, I found that my hobby was causing some problems! At this time I was still living with my parents, and I definitely didn't have room for all the creations I was dreaming up! I needed to come up with a way to allow myself to continue making what I loved without being burried in baby sweaters. My etsy shop seemed to be the answer!

*** Acrylic yarn***

You may notice that quite a few of my items are made out of acrylic. Acrylic tends to get a bad rap for being itchy and cheap. I would like to try to sway that opinion!

Point 1. Acrylic doesn't have to be scratchy. True, I don't always use the softest acrylic for toys and what not, but I only use the softest acrylic for my sweaters. A good acrylic can almost feel like a nice soft cotton. In fact, I personally find acrylic to be a much nicer feeling material to most wools, and its hypoallergenic!

Point 2. Good quality acrylic is significantly cheaper than good quality cotton or wool. That means that I can make a gorgeous sweater for your little one and I don't have to charge you and arm and a leg. With the right acrylic, you are getting great value at an affordable price.

Point 3. Acrylic is easy to care for. Although I generally do reccomend handwashing for all of my sweaters, that is only because they are handmade items and it is best to treat them gently. Acrylic is a machine washable and dryable material that will not shrink or bleed. If you do choose to wash it by hand and lay it flat to dry (or machine wash and let it air dry), acrylic does not hold water so it dries very fast. In fact, depending on the temperature and humidity where you are, and acrylic sweater may air dry in as little time as half an hour! Way more convenient than a cotton that takes sometimes up to two days to dry in a humid area.

Point 4. Acrylic is the best option for children's clothing. I truely believe this to be the case. Children get their clothes dirty, its a fact. Easy care clothing is best since you will be washing their clothes all the time. Children grow out of clothing fast, so it doesn't make sense to be spending large amounts of money on something that may not even fit for all that long (unless they have siblings to pass clothes on to!) All around, acrylic just makes more sense as a material of choice for children's clothing.

There it is in a nutshell! If you have any questions, please feel free to message me and I will be happy to help you out :)

I have been knitting since I was 12 years old. My mom taught me how to cast on, I phoned my aunt to learn how to cast off, and the rest I pretty much taught myself! I absolutely love to knit and crochet, and to share my creations!
