About

It Started With Friends In Need

Back in 2011, some dear friends of mine were facing some serious financial troubles. In an effort to help them out, I offered up a crocheted afghan for sale to the highest bidder by a specified date. I did this via my Facebook site and some other online communities.

I did sell the afghan, and for much more than I'd expected. I love to crochet, but I was getting to the point that I had too many finished items to use or give to family and friends. I donated some to various charities, but there seemed to be a limited demand for some of my favorite items to make.

Around the same time, a different friend was vexed by dissatisfaction with hair scrunchies. She has thick hair and the ones she had were either too tight if tripled or too loose if doubled. Since I used to make them for myself back as a teenager, I made her a few size samples, she found what worked for her, and I found some fabric remnants and sent her a dozen or so, along with a scarf. She was very pleased to have some that actually fit, and kept saying that I should sell them.

So, I found Etsy. The process to list and sell here seemed much simpler than the popular online auction sites.

I opened my shop on February 11, 2012, listed what I had on hand, and I've been steadily adding to it since. A few loyal friends have been my best customers so far, and they're also my greatest supporters by spreading the word about my site to their family and friends.

I believe in supporting my friends and various causes and charities. From time to time, I donate items directly to charities for use or to sell at events. In addition, I donate a portion of the sale price from some items to a particular charity. If you're interested in discussing these options in support of your cause, please send me a conversation / private message here on Etsy and I'll be glad to discuss your needs.

I do work full time, so custom orders may take some time before they're ready, but I make every effort to get them out as quickly as possible.
