About

Geekery Meets Lunacy

I've been asked several times how I started the utterly masochistic process of weaving thousands of beads together, crocheting thousands of stitches, spending an insane amount of time cursing at wire when it decides not to bend exactly to my whim.

My answer is very dull. "I have no idea. I am beyond help. Please save yourself."

I do enjoy it, though. I wouldn't spend days, weeks, months, years of my life dedicated to whatever shiny little thought pops in my head if I didn't love it. Science fiction, fantasy, video games, movies, novels, TV and the illustrious Jim Henson are major inspirations, but I pick things up here and there. Like shiny little pebbles.

I also like to collect shiny little pebbles.

If you're in need of paper-related geekery, check out my girlfriend's Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/CraftedWithZeal

From as far back as I can remember, I've been a geek who was almost abnormally attracted to shiny things. Bet you couldn't guess that, huh?

Catering to freaks, geeks and those who love shiny fun things!

I suppose the shop name more or less says it all. I am Orin Drake, and I make shiny things. I'm usually dabbling in several dozen things at any given time, and enjoying it quite a lot. Being constantly busy has its benefits, anyway.

Please be aware that everything listed here is made by hand. As such, it does require a certain degree of care. These things are not mass-produced, two things are never going to be exactly the same everything is reinforced when possible, strengthened by experience and my own material testing... but a gentle hand is still required. If you feel that what I make looks "a little 'too handmade'", then please, *please*, feel free to go elsewhere as quickly and quietly as possible.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
Please be aware that I will not start (for made to order items), alter (add a chain to, adjust, resize, etc.) or ship any items until payment is received in full. (This rule is only negotiable with more expensive commissions, in which case payment plans are possible--but nothing gets shipped until payment is received in full.)

Credit card payments through Etsy or Paypal are by far my preferences, though I can be convinced of a money order only if it is in US funds. As always, if there are questions, start a conversation.
Shipping
Thus far, the regular old United States Postal Service has tended to get things to where they need to go quickly and cheaply. I have no intention of using anything else unless requested. If requested, shipping prices more than likely *will* increase, and the buyer will pay them in full. (Yes, I have been asked to pay extra shipping myself. That was weird.)

Please be aware that shipping costs are for covering all shipping and handling costs. This helps to cover the expenses that come from gas for the car to get things to the post office, the actual envelope/box and packing supplies, the stationary for the hand-written thank you note, and my business cards. Everything is wrapped with as much care as it has been created with so the item you've purchased will make it to you safely.

Shipping upgrades are often possible at buyer's expense. Feel free to ask.

Be aware that due to postal increases, I've gone through individual items to get appropriate weights for each item and approximate packaging. If I accidentally over-charge you over $5, then I will happily offer you the choice of a refund of the excess, or a 10% off your next order coupon (not applicable to made-to-order, custom, or commission items).
Refunds and Exchanges
It is my policy that it something breaks and you can't fix it, you can send it back to me for repairs. If entire "parts"/large sections are missing, I'm afraid I'll have to charge for that--especially if an entirely new item has to be created.

Commissioned pieces are automatically insured. Otherwise, if you do not request insurance, then the item is not insured. There will be additional costs for the buyer to pay if any sort of notification or tracking is desired. I am responsible for the quality of the initial item only, not the quality of the mail service that carries it--though I do try my best to package things in such a way that they won't be damaged.

With that out of the way, I generally do not do refunds or exchanges. While I do decide on a case by case basis, my work is considered amongst "luxury items"; as such, I ask that any potential client only buy what they can afford. I have enough purchases, reviews and years of experience to assure commissioners and clients that I do not do shoddy work, therefore refunds or exchanges should not be necessary; however, as stated, I will consider on a case by case basis.
Additional policies and FAQs
BUYERS MUST BE REACHABLE BY E-MAIL OR THROUGH ETSY AND MUST RESPOND TO INQUIRIES WITHIN ONE WEEK OR THE SALE WILL BE IN DANGER OF BEING CANCELED. Too many times people cannot be reached after they've accidentally missed the opportunity to choose their own chain length, or I have a question in regards to whether or not the item is a gift. I am an artist. I am not a psychic. Sadly. Etsy doesn't always have enough options to get everything squared away at check-out.

I'm always open to trying something new! I accept Alchemy and commissions, and am very happy to work out every single detail, along with payment options. Remember: I take commissions, I do not take requests.

If you like the look of something, but you want just a slight change, chances are that it won't be a problem. Feel free to ask questions before you buy the item. In a lot of cases I can duplicate something that I've already sold, as well.

Also please be aware: I *do not* offer discounts on made-to-order, custom, or commission items. No discount code, coupon, or special offer is applicable to items I am custom making to client-specific specifications, *ever*, with one exception: special one-time-use coupon codes given to Desert Bus for Hope chocobo winners.
