Earth, Water & Fire - Direct Connections

An important part of pottery to me is its inherent ‘directness’. Clay is a mixture of water and earth. The potter’s hands form the clay. Fire transforms and fuses the particles into a ceramic that will remain for thousands of years. The materials are simple, elemental, and come directly from the Earth.
The act of forming is a direct conversion of time and craft into a tangible, functional product.
In a world of overseas factory manufacturing, specialized labor and virtual products, hand-thrown stoneware is an exception.
It is a direct connection. The act of selling in person or on sites such as also direct.
When a piece is purchased it is an exchange of invested time between one real person and another real person. It is not a mere transaction of currency for commodity
It is a direct sharing of a small piece of each other's life, even if we are never to meet.
