About

How I Work

I always begin my process with sketches and looking at reference imagery or even the real thing if I can get my hands on it. I then move to a more finalized drawing that I use as the base for my final work. I tend to work large which comes in handy when things need to be downsized or upsized. I tend to favor working in graphite, watercolor and colored pencil. After lots and lots of practice I've learned how to use the material to my advantage. But I am still experimenting.

I use both traditional and digital techniques when creating my pieces, I find that digital programs like Photoshop help aid my creativity and let me experiment to an even greater extent than just traditional media. I believe this only aids to the creation of my illustrations rather than hindering it.

Printmaking is one of my new favorite things and I hope to continue this exploration with a series of lino-cut stamps (whenever I find the time). I recently took an etching class where I learned how to use multiple methods to etch copper plates. It was one of the most fascinating and challenging courses I've taken but it was so much fun to experiment and play.

I spent three years working in a print shop while in school. With this knowledge, everything I sell is printed by myself. I hand select my papers and test each illustration with different color calibrations before selecting the final print.

I love when people can enjoy, laugh and find comfort in my work. I have lots of plans for the future and lots of products I would like to produce. With your help I'll be able to continue adding more products to my shop. Thank you for taking the time to look at my work and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.To view even more of my work please head to my website, www.amandasurveski.com. Link below!

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

I can not accept returns on customized orders. I put a lot of time into custom orders and since they are tailored to the individual it is not easy to resell them, or sometimes impossible.

Wholesale availability

Please contact me if you are interested in selling one or a few of my items wholesale.

Custom Drawings

If you are interested in buying a custom drawing please contact me and include what size you would like your image, whether you would like it to be in color or black and white and what you want an image of. From there I can give you a timeline of the project and a price estimate. After, I will work on developing a sketch and a rough idea of the project. I like to keep you, the client, as involved in the process as possible so you get exactly what you're looking for!

Is everything really hand-drawn?

Yes, everything I make is hand-drawn and created by myself.

How long does it take you to complete a drawing?

It depends on what type of drawing I'm creating. If I am doing something extremely realistic, what is considered scientific illustration, my drawings and paintings can take me days to complete just the final product. If I am working on something more stylized an illustrative, it can take me only around 3-5 hours to complete my final drawing.

What is your process like?

I start every illustration with a concept, wether that's a single word, or an image that inspires me. From there I work on developing small thumbnails, about 20, of what my drawing could look like. From my two best thumbnails I develop rough sketches that help me better idealized my two concepts. At this point I usually have a clear idea of which is working and which is not. I take the one rough sketch and create a final sketch, with details and clear definition of forms. Depending on how large I am going to be drawing, sometimes I increase the size of my sketch and print it out 2 to 3 times larger. I then transfer my sketch to my final paper and begin to start my drawing!

Can I get that in a different size?

If you see something you like but want it in a different size please message me and I will make it work for you!
