Meet Makeshift:

Makeshift Studio creates functional handmade ceramic wares.

Needing to make artwork upon graduating college and no longer having the facilities used at my undergraduate program, I had to think fast.  Not having the resources for a permanent solo studio and being a believer in Tim Gunn's favorite mantra, "Make it work!", I set out to find a "makeshift studio" that would allow me to continue making art. My makeshift studios have been in the back of an art gallery, the basement of art education non-profit, and in my own home. My current place of operation is located at Mudstone Studios in Warren, Rhode Island, a wonderful shared space for ceramic artists.

Everything at Makeshift Studio is 100% handmade by me and one-of-a-kind. I specialize in uniquely designed pottery ready-to-order, as well as some custom work.

My work is currently sold here, at the The Landing in New Bedford, MA, CRAFT-O-RAMA in New Bedford, MA, and at various art markets throughout Southern New England.

Q: What can I use this bowl/tumbler/cup/dish for?
A: Ice cream, soup, cereal, stir-fry, water, coffee, tea, cocktails, succulent planters, flower holders, pencil receptacles, jewelry catchers, ingredient prep, and the list goes on.

Q: Do you make everything yourself?
A: Yes. I make everything myself from start to finish. A one-woman operation.

Q: Can I put this in the microwave?
A: Yes

Q: Is it food safe?
A: Yes, everything is 100% food safe unless otherwise noted.

Q: Is it dishwasher safe?
A: Technically yes, however most of my work is porcelain and therefore more fragile than other types of clay so putting it in the dishwasher is NOT recommended. But ya know, you're an adult and I can't force you to do anything you don't want to. But USE CAUTION.

Q: If I shouldn't put it in the dishwasher, how do I care for a ceramic piece?
A: Hand washing with hot water is your best bet.
