Wonderful shungite garden sent with such meticulous packaging! Amazon could take some pointers from Val on how to safely wrap items!

And Then She Had a Tiny Mad Idea...

Having grown up an only child, I learned to enjoy solitude. I spent my time drawing, painting, reading, writing, and pondering the nature of the universe. My mind was always brimming with questions for which no one seemed to have answers, which is probably why I grew up to be a science geek.

My first Bachelor’s degree was in Geology (1985), second in Nursing Science (1989). In 1996 I completed my Master’s in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. In 2008, I finally discovered my true professional calling as a health and science writer.

Throughout my life, I have found relief from all of the “mind chatter” in art. To this day if I'm not creating something, I feel restless and unsettled—as if I've misplaced an important part of myself. My professional path, as well as my art, have been guided by my passion for healing. I have transitioned from RN through Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Reiki Master, Clinical EFT Practitioner, and student of Kundalini yoga. I have a special interest in gifts from the earth that can assist us along our healing journey, which has given rise to my unique line of EMF protective jewelry, which features the rare healing mineral called shungite.

I have also been a student of A Course in Miracles for most of my adult life—and therein lies the birthplace of “Tiny Mad Idea.” Please stop by and visit me at!

I always aim for accurate shipping charges, but in some situations I miss the mark - especially with multiple item orders. If your actual shipping cost is more than $2.00 lower than what you paid, I will refund the difference. If you need an order shipped outside the US, I am happy to do so!
