It is even more beautiful than in the picture. I love it!
A journey to creative bliss.
The colors flow from my brush to the silk as therapy for my mind, body, and soul. Inspired by nature, I trust the process of life and art.
Over the years I have experimented with various tools and materials in pursuit of creative expression. At The School of Applied Arts, I studied surface design and decorative painting, particularly enjoying the artistic detailing of organic and historical ornamentation. I have been involved in art my whole life. I have been painting on silk using various weights and weaves, styles and processes for quite some time now.
Having worked in the travel industry for over 20 years, I was fortunate to have visited many places.Travel enriched my life and taught me to find beauty not just in art, but in the smallest detalils of a place or an object. Color, texture, light, and line inspire me. My design ideas evolve from close examination of the play of light on the surface of a rock, a few blades of grass, a single flower petal.
I am fascinated by the abundance of beauty around us. Often the close examination of something reveals astounding beauty beyond the obvious. I am intrigued by simple philosophies:
Wabi Sabi- " A Japanese philosophy of simplicity and rusticness, celebrating the ephemeral and seeing beauty in things that are weathered; Things that are ordinary but also very beautiful."
Fractal beauty in nature-the organized chaos of pattern and geometry.
The Zen of creative expression-letting go to instinct and intuition. The more mindful we are of life experience, the more potential we have for creativity.
In my personal quest for ease in body, mind awareness, I find fulfillment in the basic principles of visual harmony. Although my own vision is impaired, composition, value, color and texture can be used to tell a story through abstract art. Focus is not essential to art or creative expression.
Painting on silk is my absolute bliss. I feel so fortunate to have found something that I enjoy so much.
My Mother helped me to discover this within myself even as an adult. She inspired my creative journey from the beginning. When I suddenly lost her to cancer, my painting became my solace. It is in creating I can connect to her and heal.
She wrote me this quote from her reading and I have this hanging in my studio:
"The Art Spirit" - Robert Henri
"When the artist is alive in any person, whatever his kind of work may be, he becomes an inventive, searching, daring, self expressive creature. He becomes interesting to other people. He disturbs, upsets, enlightens, and opens ways for a better understanding. Where those who are not artists are trying to close the book, he opens it and shows there are still more pages possible."
Owner, Maker, Designer, Curator
I have always been involved with art in some form or another! I love working in several mediums including oils, watercolors, gouche and mixed media collage. I discovered painting with dyes on Silk and knew I had found my passion in textile arts!
