About the technique:

The particular silk painting technique which I used to hand paint my scarves is called the serti technique. It is the silk painting technique where designs are formed with gutta which is applied to silk. Once the gutta has dried, it acts as a barrier for the dye or paint—keeping the color within the outlined areas of the design.
I studied the serti technique in Russia, the country which is known for cultivating this silk painting method and introducing it to Western Europe.

All scarves are hand washable.
I hand paint this silk scarves using French dyes and steam them in steamer so the dyes bond with silk and will not fade or bleed. Care instruction card will be included with each purchase.

♥ A magnificent piece of wearable art!!!

♥ I am very pleased with your technique. Your scarfs feature complex ornamentation and although very different. In my opinion, your scarfs are better then fashion retailer Hermeś from France.

♥ Just received the scarf today. It is so luxurious and very well made. Your handmade technique with the colors on this design is spectacular. Exceeded my expectations! Thank you so much.

About

The Way of Silk Painting

The scarves in my shop are a result of my passion, love and struggle for the art. My name is Irina, and I’m the silk artist behind Fine Art Silk brand.
I’ve lived in Russia for most of my life, but several years ago moved to USA for study at University of Notre Dame. I was graduate student studying aerospace engineering when my silk painting business began.
I have studied silk painting process in Russia. It was my passion for a long time.
Firstly I just painted scarves for my own pleasure and making gifts to my friends and family. Then when I received several requests for custom orders I realized that it is possible to make some money by doing what I love.
It took me a while to fully commit to silk painting because it was a risk that meant quitting university program. It wasn’t easy, but it was well worth it. Now I am creating art works full time and I love doing that, it really brings joy to my life. And my business has taught me many useful skills, which I hardly can learn being in school and as a result I feel stronger as an individual.

For past several years of my artistic practice I developed my unique silk painting style and created a large body of works, both scarves and silk paintings. I had run several solo exhibitions, participated in many group exhibitions all over the country and even was lucky to have my works featured in some publications.

I grew up in Russia. When I discovered the world of silk painting it quickly became my passion. I came to the USA as a graduate student. After graduation, I started to work on art full time.
