Silkcraft is an eco friendly shop, specializing in naturally dyed silk scarves.
Take a look at our feature in Belle Armoire magazine!
https://stampington.com/Belle-Armoire-Winter-2017

My silks are dyed exclusively with plant material, using wonderful eucalyptus leaves, rose leaves and rare mountain plants.
The dyeing process is completely natural without harmful chemicals, and the silk is 100% pure.
Every piece is unique and it is not possible to repeat the same design even if it is made exactly the same way.
The enjoyment of wearing something that is pure nature is priceless.

As one customer said: 'This fabric has a wondrous energy to it, and I am going to be using it as part of a performance piece. The marks made inside of it from dyeing with natural substances and object leaves curious little marks that almost remind me of a lithographic pencil dipped in water and drawn with--quite exquisite work. Currently I have been wearing it around and using it as a scarf and many people want to look into it or just touch it. Romana, beautiful work! Continue dyeing beautiful fabrics : )

Thank you for visiting! Enjoy!

The new Eco print tutorial has just been listed! Try this easy steaming method in your microwave and have your scarf printed in less then two hours.
I am working on a new tutorial. I'd like to name it "Fruit salad" for it's only got fruit ingredients. What do you think?
I am taking this beauty to a fancy dinner tonight. Find out how to make one yourself with my downloadable PDF instructions.

About

Scarborough Affair Silk Scarves and Eco Dyeing

Several years ago, when I moved to Perth Australia, I really wasn't sure if that was the right place for me. Very isolated and not too rich with opportunity for entertainment industry professionals, Perth seemed to be a poor choice for me.
I soon started enjoying the beautiful Australian nature, fantastic beaches, found a house in Scarborough near the ocean, joined the pottery studio in Cottesloe, and the wonderful felting group Feltwest, and started yet a new craft of nuno felting. I absolutely fell in love with it as well as the natural dyeing, for which Australia is one of the best locations in the world.
Today, back in Australia again, I am delighted at the opportunity to enjoy Sydney's busy city lifestyle, ferry rides at sunset and the beautiful beaches. Most of all I am looking forward to creating lots of the magical eco printed silk pieces with the help of the Eucalyptus and other Australian native plants.

Care instructions

SILK: Cool hand wash separately in baby shampoo, add a quarter cup of vinegar to the final rinse to refresh colors. Expect the color to run slightly during wash, as with all silks. When not in use for a longer period of time, store in an airtight container with a fragrant soap to deter insects.

NUNO FELTED ITEMS: Luke warm hand wash separately in mild shampoo. Do not rub or wring, just soak for 10 -20 min and then lightly stir by hand and squeeze gently. Add a splash of hair conditioner to the last rinse. Gently squeeze water out, pull at the ends to straighten, roll in a towel and dry flat overnight. When not in use for a longer period of time, store in an airtight container with a fragrant soap to deter insects.

What chemicals are used in the dyeing process?

None. The only dyeing agent applied to my silks is pure natural vinegar.
The silks are sometimes dyed in reactive iron, aluminium or copper pots, but they are thoroughly washed and rinsed after the dyeing process is finished.

Are your materials natural?

Yes, I only work with pure, natural silk and merino wool.
