About

Quality Handcrafted Jewelry

Hello, and welcome to Silkspinner Designs!

I enjoy creating jewelry, learning new techniques and trying out different materials. I have been studying metal smithing here in Basel since April 2011, and I became certified in basic gemology by the Swiss Gemological Institute in August 2012. Metals and gemstones are my favorites, but I'm always on the lookout for materials with interesting colors, textures and shapes to incorporate into my pieces.

I call my pieces wearable art, and I make each by hand in my own studio.

"Silkspinner" is the English translation of our family name from a few generations back. My ancestors lived in this region before emigrating to America in the late 1800's.

I enjoy working with my hands, and I especially like working with metals because they are so versatile and offer an enormous range of design possibilities. Add other materials, such as stones, beads, wood, found objects, etc., and the sky is the limit.

Making jewelry is like putting together a three-dimensional puzzle - the pieces are a chaotic jumble until you reach a certain stage when they suddenly start to assemble themselves into an original and pleasing work of art.

If you like my style, but don't see quite what you want in my shop, I am happy to make bespoke pieces. Please send me a description and tell me how much you would like to spend.

Enjoy!

Payment
I accept payments through PayPal, which also takes major credit cards.

I also accept direct payments by electronic banking, or cash if we can meet in person. Please select the "other" option at the checkout and then contact me so we may make the arrangements.

I will ship your purchase within 1-3 business days after receiving your payment. Please see more under "Shipping".
Shipping
I do not charge for shipping and I use first class mail (international and domestic) to ensure that you receive your item as fast as possible. The shipping times from Switzerland are:
Domestic (within Switzerland): 1-3 business days
Europe: 3-5 business days
Rest of the world: 5 - 10 business days

Please note that the buyer is responsible for customs duties and any additional fees that are levied by the destination country.

I will notify you by e-mail once I have shipped your item.

I pack the items to minimize the risk of damage and I use recycled materials whenever possible. Please let me know if you would like the item to be gift-wrapped and if you would like to include a message and I will do this at no extra charge. In the interest of full and fair disclosure, I have never bowled anyone over with my gift-wrapping skills, but I will do my best to make your gift look nice.
Refunds and Exchanges
Loss or damage in shipping: I will replace the item or refund your money. In case of damage, please send me a photo.

Breakage: I try to use only materials and techniques that I trust to stand up to normal use, and I give as much detail as possible about the materials so the buyer can make an informed choice, but I know that sometimes there are surprises. If your piece breaks under normal stress, please contact me so we can work out a repair or replacement. I will do this within reason - if your necklace didn't survive a Herculean tug by your toddler, then I probably would agree to repair rather than replace. In some cases, I might ask for a description of what happened.

Exactly what you ordered and it arrived in good condition, but not what you were expecting: Shopping online for non-fungible items still requires a leap of faith no matter how good the digital images and detailed the descriptions are. If an item arrives and you just plain don't like it or it doesn't fit, please contact me within 5 calendar days after you received it so we can work out an adjustment, replacement or refund. The item must arrive back to me in the same condition in which I sent it.

Replacement pieces will be slightly different to what you ordered originally because each item is handmade.

Return shipping costs are the buyer's responsibility.
Additional policies and FAQs
If you would like more information about an item, for example, different photographs or more detailed description of the materials, please contact me and I would be happy to provide them.
