This is my first wood sculpture and I have to say that I'm impressed. The wood grain is beautiful and the design is very pleasing. There's almost a meditative and soulful quality about it. I look at it and I'm immediately calmer. I think this is due to the shape and material. It has a natural welcoming and peaceful quality to it that makes me adore and appreciate it more than I thought I would. It puts my mind at ease in the traditional way as well. Because it's so light and the shape fits well, I can focus on the moments and really take my time with it. Actually, that's what surprises me the most about this. More than any other pleasure object I own it just seems to help my mind. I really do love this one. I look forward to seeing more good wood in the future. Thanks! :D

About

Dildos the exclusive way

Silvarus opened in 2012. Silvarus is a combination of two latin words: "Silva" meaning wood, and "Purus" meaning pure. When materials and technology, even in the dildo business, is constantly coming up with new ideas and directions, I love going back to basics with a material that has both beauty and warmth.

For me, it's as much to create an object of beauty as it is functionality.

Why dildos? I've been working with small wood projects for over two decades and I never skipped an opportunity to go out in the forests, sit down on a rock with a good knife and a nice piece of fresh wood carving both this and that.

Late 1990's I was asked, or maybe challenged, to carve a dildo for a friend, mostly for fun. As I did it, I quickly got an "order" for another one... and another... and so on. I found it very pleasant bringing out the sloped, rounded and (in my opinion) fairly feminine curves and shapes out of the wood.

HOW THEY COME TO BE
-------------------------------------
It always start with selecting the perfect piece of wood for the design. I prefer Cherry, Maple, Ash or Walnut for my projects. I find the wood need to present a nice grain and pattern for a good outcome. Maple and Cherry has nice lines of grain in wave patterns while it also looks nice and clean. Walnut has nice lines but more straight, and of course the wood has a rich dark colour. Ash can present itself in many different patterns and it's therefore not always certain that the final product will become as presentable as I first would have hoped. I try to use reclaimed wood as much as I can, and some dildos are even made from old furniture like chairs and bedframes.

Design is usually done on the fly, improvised on the spot with the blank in front of me. The wood itself therefore has a certain input in what design would work for that specific piece. It is then roughly cut out by bandsaw before the major shaping work with different knifes and blades takes over... followed by hours of sanding and surface prep.

One of my favorite moments is when I apply the first and second coating of surface varnish. After all the sanding the surface of the dildo can be dull and lifeless, but when the first brush strokes of varnish is applied, the grain and rich wood colour comes to life and you can see how the final product will present itself.

Welcome to the Silvarus wood craft store

The word "Silvarus" is composed from two latin words; Silva - meaning wood, and Purus - meaning pure. I first made a wood sex toy over a decade ago, and it was clear from the start that in comparison to a modern plastic toy, this was very much more alive and pure.

We hope you will enjoy our store and eventually the product you've purchased.

Additional policies and FAQs
One of the absolute most common questions we get is "what about splinters?" and though we know the question is posed in a humorous manner, there is always a bit of seriousness in the question. No, there is no way you can get any kind of splinters from the product. The wood selected is so hard it cannot break by hand, and even without the varnish the surface is so smooth and polished there's no way it could happen. :-)

Second most common question is always about the varnish. Is it safe? Technically, all varnishes for personal household use are safe, or "food safe" as we sometimes hear it being called, as long as it is cured properly. We make sure however that we really take the safe road and the varnish we use is a diluted water based finish in AT LEAST 10 coats. The finish is then allowed to cure for about 3-4 weeks to make sure of a hard, polished and safe product. Without varnish, any kind of moisture would be absorbed by the wood, raise the grain up render the product unusable within seconds.

Do you have an idea for the shape and form of a dildo that you want to have produced? Please send us an e-mail and we shall see what we can do.
