Announcement   Barb Baur is a native Philadelphian and a lifelong artist. As a child, she made things from any material show could find and was using power tools from a young age. Her first pieces of jewelry were made from wood and aluminum in grade school. Classes in art, music and sewing as well as a jewelry apprenticeship in high school shaped her early work.
Barb grew up in city rowhouses and rebelled by leaving the city at age 19 eventually living on a sailboat for 12 years. Sometimes she was docked in local waters along the East coast pursuing a job on land and other times cruising the Chesapeake Bay and Intracoastal Waterway while running a marine navigation software company.
Eventually Barb came to miss the culture of Philadelphia. When her friend and former teacher, Jack MacCracken had a debilitating stroke that confined him to a nursing home, she moved back to the city to act as his caregiver in order for him to return home. With Jack's encouragement, she returned to school to finish her degree in fine arts although he passed away early in her studies. Barb completed her Master of Fine Arts in 2017 and is the principal designer for Fair Winds Jewelry.

I began as an apprentice to a master jeweler in 1982 making small repairs and honing my metalworking skills. My education includes both college metal art classes and jewelry trade schools. I have worked for several jewelers in my career doing in store repairs and ring sizing, creating custom work for individual customers while designing my own line of jewelry. Today, all of my work is done directly for people like you.
