I love the intersection between art and science
Pottery
I started in pottery classes in March 2019 and attended about once a week. In March 2020 - well, we all know what happened then, and desperate to resume my pottery passion in the fall I purchased a pottery wheel to use at home. Since then adding a small kiln which allows flexibility in producing unique pieces offered for sale here in the store. I love learning about the chemistry and science behind clays and glazes and how hot to fire them in the kiln... but I also love that sometimes a lump of clay has ideas to be a different vessel than I sit down and try to make it into. I've learned to just follow the lead sometimes as the shapes that can develop can be unexpectedly lovely.
Simple by Nature® - I started making my own skincare products in 2011 - very shortly after learning to read the labels on products I thought were “natural” but found they weren’t - I felt like there had to be a better way. I learned about preservatives - the good ones, the ok ones, the cheap ones, the expensive ones and the bad ones. I also learned about natural vs. man-made and what can be used where and with which other ingredients. I took a Master Class in Herbalism and grabbed hold of people who knew about natural products and absorbed all the information I could. I first offered my products in my brick & mortar shop in Colorado - the simple lotion was the first one. I got great feedback and developed the brand and registered the trademark - Simple By Nature® Towards the end of 2016 after 8 very successful years owning a brick and mortar shop, I decided to close and concentrate on the skincare line and other things - including a move into the forest near Larkspur Colorado.
