About

How I started

Back in the 1960's my first job was working at a wonderful store called The Naked Grape! Located in the east village across the street from the famed Filmore East. It was the time to be there even if I didnt realize it then...Anyway at 14 I was hired to be their picker at their secret location (shhh...the Brooklyn Navy Yard) and to repair and iron and display the vintage clothing...I was paid with vintage clothing since I was too young for my working papers.

I think my taste was born there...and I have been consistent for the next 40 years... I chose the 1930's and 40's silks and chiffons and rayon print dresses with gorgeous romantic florals and ROSES...the sheer chiffon lingerie and silk velvets from the same period. Thats the way I dressed then and on rare occasion now.
Some lingerie form my collection was included in the book
" Irresistible The Art of Lingerie 1920-1980"

When I first started selling at 26th st flea market and doing antique shows back in 1992 it was mostly vintage clothing and lingerie ...gowns that Ginger Rogers or Jean Harlow would have worn I added my painted syroco pieces and victorian collages and slowly added my painted furniture all in the pastel colors that mimicked the clothing for the ultimate feminine romantic booth.
Many of my ideas and items were featured in Diane Zweig's book "Hot Cottage Collectibles For A Vintage Style Home".

All furniture starts out vintage or even antique at least from the 1940s...with something feminine about it graceful lines or appliques then painted to fit a romantic shabby and chic cottage or farmhouse or victorian...to todays eclectic home ...All with a romantic and feminine flair.

Sanded first sometimes to bare wood then painted at least 3 times (mahogany up to 5 times) and sanded between coats...then it is either distressed or accented with different pastel colors or with handpainted tiny flowers , ladies from my collages or vintage wallpaper and now my resin appliques then glazed or waxed and antiqued to give it back its age.
I don't take any shortcuts I don't use primers or spray paint and I like to think of myself as environmentally correct! You are getting a one of a kind that doesn't look like it was made today... I rarely do bright white...I want my furniture to be unique and have the character that age and patina can bring to them them....You are getting a piece of my soul with every creation and I willing and lovingly share it with you.
