Welcome to Simply Handspun Yarn ~ Where Art Meets Fiber
I love fiber and I love experimenting with different color combinations to create beautiful yarns, rovings and batts. Fortunately, my 10 year old son, Ben, also is on his way to becoming a fiber artist, as well. You may occasionally find his artwork in our shop. Although, I have to say, his pieces sell pretty quickly, much to his joy! Most of his money that he makes goes into Legos! All of the rovings and yarns are handpainted in our shop. I spin all of the yarns myself. I do carry the full line of Ashford of New Zealand products.
Thank you so much for visiting and please come back soon! We have new items being added all the time!

About

Simply Handspun Yarn Where Art Meets Fiber

In 2005, we moved from Chattanooga, TN to Cookeville, TN because of my job. I was a sales rep for Pitney Bowes. A new yarn shop opened up close to us, so I went in to check it out. At the time, I didn't knit, crochet or spin. It must have been a God thing, because I was very drawn to the texture and colors of all the different yarns. So, I signed up for a knitting class. And thus began my love affair with all things fiber! To me, spinning is a natural extension of knitting. I actually purchased 18 angora rabbits and met a lady who was selling her spinning wheel. The rest is history! At first, spinning wasn't easy and I almost gave up. I could not keep the wheel spinning in the same direction. But, my little boy, and I do mean little, 2, was able to keep the wheel spinning in one direction. My husband was able to spin a cotton ball right off the bat, so I determined to attack it again! I met the sweetest lady who spun and she agreed to teach me. I had two lessons in the park, and voila! I loved it!! I loved the exotics, so I spun a lot of that. Then I got into dying my own fibers. At first I used all natural dyes consisting of Kool Aid and food coloring and the occasional vege matter. Being an entrepreneur at heart, I decided to open an online shop. I tried doing a website myself, but I gave up! Oscommerce got the best of me. Then I looked at ETSY and WOW! It was awesome. I opened my shop and it has been fantastic. I lost my job with Pitney Bowes in a lay off, so now I do this full time as well as homeschool my 2 children. God is good! I love my life as a wife, mother and artist!!

About 10 years ago, I took my first knitting class, thus began the love affair with yarn! I purchased my first spinning wheel, started dyeing my own yarns in my home. Now, I have a podcast on YouTube - Simply Homespun! What's next??

Ben is my very creative son who loves all things fiber, paper, and wood! He is a very good wood carver and has also had good success with spinning art yarn from art batts he creates. And, there is nothing he cannot make from paper!
