This is a really sweet little pin. I'm so pleased with it - it is better in person. thanks.
I always knew I could do it.
I started Singing Stones Jewels because I got tired of seeing things at craft fairs and on Etsy that I knew I could make myself. I've spent most of my life working with gems, antiques, jewelry and the like in one way or another. I was always repairing them, untangling impossibly knotted chains, and figuring out how to re-set stones.
I'm also handy with a needle and thread and was always repairing those rips and tears nobody else could fix. I have a knack with antique textiles and hidden repairs in knit fabrics. But, I'm not a knitter or a crocheter despite the fact that pretty much all of my friends are.
As the economy went south and I started working more and more part time jobs and the full time jobs got more and more scarce, I started fixing jewelry both for myself and friends. I was fashioning new stuff out of old, broken things. Then I realized that it was fun, and relaxing.
A new business was born, Singing Stones Jewelry. As I'm a classically trained singer and also a science teacher, the name worked perfectly. The name Singing Stones comes from an intersection of Music and Science. The Singing Stones are a scientific phenomenon found on volcanic beaches around the world. While *these* stones may not sing, the artist behind them certainly does.
I work out of my home with the support of my husband and the supervision of our 2 cats and 2 dogs.
Everything you see here is something that came to me based on the materials I have at hand. I do my best to repurpose old or broken things into something new and useful. I try to work with semi-precious stones and sterling silver. When I can afford solid gold I use it, but I often use gold plated items instead.
Please, stop and take a look around. This is a labor of love as well as a business. Thanks for stopping by.
