Collars ready to pack for a show.

A dichroic pendant ready to fly to a new home.
How it began - Sensible collars with an exotic flair.
I started making hound collars more than 25 years ago when I could not find collars that I considered safe that were also pretty. With a background in saddlery, I set out to design something that would satisfy my most stringent customer - myself. After a few trials and errors I hit upon the formula that made me happy and I haven’t stopped making them.
In addition to collars, other fiber arts call my name. When the muse is upon me I create art quilts from hand-dyed fabrics and whatever surprising finds I can incorporate into them.
A circuitous path led me to warm glass, in the form of jewelry and larger pieces of art for the home. My love affair with fused glass began in 1999, and after a bit of a cool spell, the kilns are firing up again.
My art is inspired by the land around me, the amazing hounds that share my home, and by the love of my life – my husband of more than 30 years, Bill.

Susan L. Schroeder
Owner, Maker, Designer
My involvement in saddlery and professional sewing as a youth led me to making collars for hounds and fiber arts for the home. Throw in a little warm glass, the occasional batch of soap and you have the mixture that sets free the artist in me.

Frequently asked questions
How do I measure for my hound's collar?
The collar will need to slip over your hound's head. You want it to slid on fairly easily, but be a little snug coming off. This will make sense once you start measuring.
Start by measuring over the widest part of the head. Slide the tape measure over the ears and down the neck. Then slide it back off. Yes, the ears are what makes the difference in the way it slides on and slides off. We want it snug enough the the hound will not back out of it, but not so snug it feels like it is ripping the ears off to take the collar off.

Am I limited to the base colors and trims shown?

Care instructions
Collars can be hand washed with a mild detergent or soap and air dried. I use a mild shampoo to wash my collars.
