I started Skeinny Dipping in the summer of 2011 after an autoimmune disease that started while I was serving in the Peace Corps became unmanageable in a traditional work setting. When I'm not in physical therapy or resting I dye yarn and spinning fiber from my home kitchen. I'm the CEO of everything--I do the sourcing, prepping, dyeing, photo-taking, and shipping of your yarn and fiber. My dog, Gracie, who does not shed, protects your yarn from the UPS man; the regular mail man is ok because he gives her treats.

All of my colorways are created by me, and go through numerous iterations before it becomes a colorway I sell in the shop. Most of the colorways you see have several dyed layers to make them what they are (i.e. they are labor intensive). Whether kettle-dyed, handpainted, or sprinkled (or all three), each skein I create must pass the test of me wanting to keep it here for my own stash. If it doesn't pass I keep adjusting the dyepot until it is something I am happy with.

I source my yarns from very reputable mills within North America and use professional acid dyes for protein fibers (wool, alpaca, etc). I let all of the dyed yarns cool in their dyepots to ensure the dye is fully exhausted (some colorways need this cool down for all of the dye particles to bond with the yarn). This also allows me to recycle the water in the dye bath. Next I wash them in cool water and some Allure Fiber Wash (an all natural wool wash) and then spin the water out in my spin dryer. I also reuse this water for the next day's dye bath.

I love intense, saturated color ways which is why you won't find many pastels.

Welcome to my shop! I handdye and handpaint yarns for knitting and crocheting. Most of my colorways are either semi-solid or mildly variegated so that any yarn that you purchase will knit up beautifully in whatever pattern you choose!

Shipping & Policies

Every skein I dye is done in a small batch of three skeins. I keep detailed records of what I do to each skein so that my customers can get the most consistent color per colorway no matter when you order them. However, due to the nature of handpainted skeins I cannot promise that the skeins will be identical. This is the nature of handpainted yarn! I suggest that you alternate skeins every few rows if you are knitting/crocheting a larger garment.

Shipping and Returns

Customer happiness is very important to me, so if for some reason you are not happy with your yarn please let me know within one week (7 calendar days) of receiving your purchase. I will accept returned yarn for either a refund or exchange as long as the following conditions are met:

-You must convo me before mailing the yarn back to confirm the yarn is eligible to be returned.
-Yarn is in original hank/skein and the label is still attached so I can still sell it as a new item in the shop.
-Yarn must not smell like anything other than yarn.
-I must receive the yarn back at the shop within 7 calendar days of purchase (domestic orders) and 30 calendar days (international orders).
-Sale items and custom orders are NOT returnable or refundable or eligible for a credit.
-I will not refund the shipping cost back to me unless I made an error with your package.

I'm the Chief Executive Officer of Everything around here, so while your package will typically be shipped the next day, please allow me up to 3-5 days to get your package out in case it is the weekend or a holiday. I appreciate your understanding.

DOMESTIC US packages will be shipped via First Class automatically unless the weight of your order sends it via Priority Mail. Your Priority package is automatically insured for $50.00. If you would like more than this amount of insurance please leave me a note in the "note to seller" box at checkout and I will invoice you for the extra insurance.

INTERNATIONAL PACKAGES are sent First Class via the United States Postal Service (USPS), and depending on the weight it will automatically be upgraded to Priority Mail International. Unfortunately, Delivery Confirmation cannot be added to your First Class International delivery because once it leaves the USPS it cannot be tracked. You can upgrade to Priority Mail International to be able to track your package AND insure your package--please leave me a note in the "Note to Seller" box at checkout and I will convo you to set up a listing for the upgrade. Upgrading to Priority Mail International with insurance is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as Skeinny Dipping will not replace your yarn if it goes missing because you did not upgrade with insurance. All and any customs charges are your responsibility.

All excess shipping charges over $1.00 will be refunded to you.
Additional policies and FAQs
Please note that I dye all of my yarns in a pet-friendly, non-smoking home with environmentally-friendly soaps. If you are a shopper who is highly sensitive to soaps or dog hair then perhaps my shop is not right for you. I do have a dog, however, and though she rarely sheds (she is a Yorkshire Terrier mix) I can't promise that a stray hair won't get to the yarn. She is completely uninterested in yarn and prefers to monitor the comings-and-goings on the sidewalk in front of our house. Please be aware of this in case you are allergic.
