Love it! It held about 10 pounds of fruit with ease. It does stretch to allow maximum storage while shopping. A heavy duty bag I plan on using for years. A well crafted item I would buy this again.

About

Continuing a family knit and crochet tradition.

I started my shop after moving to Seattle in 2008, my two dogs and I lived near Pike Place Market and I was inspired by all of the unique handmade items in all of the vendor booths. I used my own crochet bags to pick up groceries in Pike Place and carry them home and these became one of the first items in our shop. I enlisted my mother to start helping produce these bags in 2009 and her role is greatly expanded since then - she produces some of our best products like the hairpin lace shawls. My youngest sister also contributes to the shop by making all of our color crochet bags. She is responsible for all of the variety available with those products and I love the colors she chooses!

The bags began to sell pretty well so we decided to start adding some other products. In 2012 we had our best year selling everything from bags to scarves and hats. In December of that year I was laid off and decided to give selling our handmade products full time a shot. We moved to Atlanta and I took a small business class through Goodwill. By the end of 15 weeks I had a business plan and was ready to take it to the next level. Skybox became Skybox Human Creations LLC and here we are!

We currently use all kinds of fibers for our products however every member of Skybox attempts to live in the most environmentally sound and ethical way possible. We make our own household cleaners and/or beauty products or we buy these from Etsy sellers. We reuse bags and recycle. We rescue animals and give to charity. In this spirit we have been working on building relationships with manufacturers of sustainable fiber yarns (linen, bamboo, hemp) and humanely produced wool. Our goal is to have 75% of our products made using solely these fibers by 2015.

We've now had a vendor booth at several festivals in Atlanta and it's been hard work but the feeling of selling things directly to customers in a personal, face to face setting has been exhilarating! The personal contact is a great addition to our Etsy adventure and we are really excited about the coming months!

We come from a long line of knitters and crocheters, Skybox consists of myself, my sister and our mother. I'm a vegan and believe in being humane to living beings. This is the driving principle behind the fibers we source and use.
