About

Jewelry that tells a story.

I started making jewelry years ago as a hobby, taking old jewelry and remaking it into something new to extend the life of an item out of style, or fixing something broken or missing. When I moved to Nevada City, I had a large space to turn into a studio, and being new to the area, I had a lot of spare time on my hands.
I have a degree in Fine Art, and many years ago I used to create physically with my hands making large paintings and collages. I eventually moved into graphic design and web design, which meant a lot of time "plugged in" making digital works, and I missed having something tactile and tangible made directly with my own hands. So, somehow the space and the time allowed me to start trying new techniques, new materials and new tools in jewelry making. Soon enough I was soldering silver, hand-piercing bronze sheets, setting stones and texturing and etching copper and silver and making jewelry pieces that I would wear. I got encouragement from friends and strangers who wanted similar pieces and so I started selling my creations.
I love to be adorned by jewelry that has personal meaning to me, either because of the stone, the artistry of a piece, where I've worn it, or the way it makes me feel. Jewelry is a very personal expression, worn close to the skin, sometimes every day for years and years. For me, jewelry is best when it's made with quality materials by a human, is built to last, is unique and tells a story (both about the wearer and the maker).

Hello, my name is Patti. I design and hand-craft jewelry made with .925 sterling, .999 fine silver, as well as bronze and copper. I use natural gemstones whenever possible, though a compelling vintage object or reclaimed bit of a what-not sometimes wanders in to my work as well. I often feel torn between my love of vintage and modern, so my work has a bit of both.

The mystical phoenix represents the beauty and energy of the creative struggle for me - rising from the ashes, creating something from nothing. Sleeping Phoenix holds a quieter meaning - the potential energy to shine ever so brightly, and it's something we all have in common. Welcome to Sleeping Phoenix, come and be adorned!

Returns and exchanges
PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH YOUR ORDER OR IF YOUR SHIPPING DELIVERY IS LATE. If you have purchased a piece of jewelry from me, it's my job to make sure that you love it, that every detail about it is up to snuff, and that it arrives safely in your hands!

PLEASE CONTACT ME ABOUT REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES since every situation that might arise is special and specific to the individual and the item to be refunded or exchanged! Generally speaking, exchanges can be made within 5 days of the receipt of order. If I agree to a return, items returned must be in original, unused condition, and customer pays a 15% Re-Stocking Fee and return shipping, tracking, and insurance.

SHIPPING ISSUES
I know at times mail carriers aren't exactly careful with packages. You should not have to pay because of their careless handling. To reduce the likelihood of shipping issues, I package my items with great care. If your order arrives damaged, please let me know and I will work with you to ensure the issue is resolved fairly. I will need pictures of the product and package in order to file necessary claims so please take photos as soon as an item arrives that is damaged in the mail.

CUSTOM ORDERS CANNOT BE REFUNDED OR EXCHANGED. Please ensure that you send me all the information I request to create your custom order. If you order a ring in size 8, you will receive a ring in size 8. Making a change to the size after the order has been placed will result in additional charges; asking for a resize after the item has been received will also result in additional charges.

I'm a one-woman show, and I do take my work and my Etsy shop very seriously. If you have an issue please get in touch!
Payment
I gratefully accept PayPay, Etsy Gift Cards and will gladly accept money orders. Once items are fully paid for, I will ship them to you!
Shipping
Depending on the item it usually takes 2 days to 2 weeks from the day you place your order for it to be shipped (listing will tell you if production time is required or if item is ready to ship).

You can always contact me if you want something to arrive earlier and I'll do my best to make it happen.

Sometimes (and that is more common for international orders) a parcel can get stuck at customs for unknown reasons. If your order is late you can use the tracking number I provide you with to inquire about your item at customs and get it there.

In any case of delay you should contact me, I will do my best to help you and we can find a solution together.
Additional policies and FAQs
Please ask questions! I do my best to respond promptly to any inquiries so if you're unsure about anything (ex. fit, color) send me a message! I usually respond within a few hours.

NOTE: I do my best to be environmentally and socially responsible in my home and in my studio. I use biodegradable, recycled, vintage, and reclaimed materials when possible.

Metal and gemstone care:
Most metals tarnish with age and wear, especially copper (and metals that contain copper, such as brass, nickel silver and sterling silver). I do try to design my pieces with this in mind, so that with age, your jewelry looks better. Visit my website at www.sleepingphoenix.com for information on cleaning your jewelry.
Copper and bronze may cause skin reactions -- please do not purchase items containing these metals unless you know you can wear them comfortably. Gemstones can be very sensitive to chemicals like chlorine or like those found in common household cleaning products. To keep them at their glorious best, remove your gemstone adornments before swimming or cleaning.
