Slow Art Studio started in a school-bus-house on Lopez Island in 1999. I've been on Etsy since 2009! Everything in my shop is designed, drawn, hand-printed or made by me, currently in a sweet artist's garret, perched atop a rock in La Conner, Washington.
This is a grass-roots book arts project focused on making sure there are books, and people who know how to make them.
I’m happy to work out payments on an individual basis, so don't hesitate to ask about Layaway.
I take a limited amount of custom orders; bookbinding takes a lot of time, so if you need something in a hurry, this is not the shop for you!
Thanks for shopping small!
Stay healthy.
Peace, Brenna Jael

5 out of 5 starsI must sing Jenna of Slow Art Studio's praises! This green leather Tokyo journal is absolutely divine. I love everything about it, from the colors to the design to the enclosure and definitely the paper! I've been on the search for a fine green leather journal for my travels and I'm thrilled to have found this one! Thank you for a beautiful packaging job and the cards that came with it! I'll be returning to shop at Slow Art Studio for sure. Best, ~B

5 out of 5 starsAnother fantastic journal! The papers make it feel like and antique book! This is for my daughter who is turning 40 and she has a list of things she wants to do, one of them is to create 40 sketches. So when I was shopping at Slow Art Studio this one just called out her name.
I am more than pleased to have discovered this Artist.
She was very friendly and my package came so quick and really nicely packaged with some nice little gifts.
I will be back to her shop soon! -

5 out of 5 starsI Love this little journal. I can put it in my bag and take it with me. It has been made with the same beautiful papers and leather as the bigger journals. I can't wait to fill it up with tiny sketches.
Another work of love from this wonderful artist! -

When I started my Etsy shop in 2009, Etsy wasn't quite as well known as it is now.
I didn't even make journals yet, I just had some crocheted hats and stuff.
I didn't start making significant sales until about 2012 (So stick with it, if you are just starting out!). I lived on a small, isolated island and being able to share my art worldwide and make a little extra money was an amazing gift.
Wow, I have learned a lot and even started a brick-and-mortar shop and book-arts center since then! I moved off the Island to a nearby art-centric town, La Conner, WA.
I'm about 7 years into making journals and I'm still obsessed. I love to use the random books and maps that libraries are throwing out. I love the feedback and ideas I get from my customers.
Overall, I'm full of gratitude, and excited to see what happens next!

I live in a tiny art town in NW Washington State. My Bookbinding studio is a small artist's garret, where I also live. I make my living on Etsy and teaching bookbinding classes. I'm filled with deep gratitude and I also work really, really hard!

Why “rogue” ?
Im sorry to say there is a lot of snobbery in the bookbinding and art universe, and I’m not interested. I’ve had - and will have - some great teachers, but I’m doing my own thing.
