fine vintage clothing for smart moderns
Small Earth Vintage is Karen and Andy, and we offer a carefully selected range of vintage clothing, shoes and accessories. Though we focus on mid century, we also offer items from the Victorian era through the Jazz Age when we find them, as well as those 1970s and 1980s pieces that are particularly special. All items are cleaned and mended as needed, and carefully packaged for shipment. We take the name Small Earth seriously, and are happy to ship vintage anywhere in the world, at a low rate; in fact, shipping is free for all US orders over $100, and at a reduced price everywhere else for orders over $100.
Small Earth Vintage is a love story. Andy has been wearing, collecting and selling vintage since he was in college. I started buying vintage in thrift stores when I was 16, and ever since, my closet has been filled with it. I first saw Andy on a street in Astoria, Queens. He was wearing an old Stroh’s beer jacket and vintage Levi’s, and, well, it was pretty much love at first sight. I eventually quit my job as a children’s book editor, and moved to Michigan, where Andy lived and sold vintage clothing. We’ve been seeking vintage treasure together ever since. For 13 years, our terrier mutt Lucy was a constant, beloved companion who joined us on many of our adventures. We recently adopted a new little dog, Pickles, who shows promise as a photo bomber. The three of us live in a 1960s home on a small lake.

Please read the Shipping section below for information on shipping to Etsy addresses versus PayPal addresses.
I am happy to ship internationally! I use USPS First Class International shipping for most items and have found it cost effective and reliable; if you prefer USPS Priority or USPS Priority Express you can choose one of those options at checkout. Also note that First Class International mail has weight (up to 4 pounds) and size restrictions that may require packages being sent via USPS Priority.
Buyers outside the US, please note that customs forms must be filled out accurately and honestly. Please be aware of customs laws and duties in your country before importing. Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges, and are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up from your local post office.
Customers in Italy: I'm sorry, but I cannot ship shoes or leather goods to you. Your country forbids the importation of these items, and my post office will not ship the package for me.
Shipping Addresses: Please note that I will ship to the address shown on your order, unless prior arrangement has been made. If a package is returned to me due to improper address, the customer assumes responsibility for the costs to re-ship the package.

Sizing: Please be aware that vintage clothing sizing is quite different from today's sizing system (which is already non-standardized!). Though I give estimates of the current size of items in my descriptions, the only way to tell if an item will fit you is to compare the measurements given in the description to those of a similar item that does fit you. Full measurements are provided in all descriptions, and I am happy to give additional measurements if needed. (This goes for shoes, too, as they can vary greatly in sizing--not so much era to era, but rather brand to brand.) Here's a post from my blog about determining whether something will fit that might be helpful, especially to those of you new to buying vintage online: http://smallearthvintage.blogspot.com/2014/01/will-it-fit.html
Note that the measurements given are the measurements of the *garment*, not of the person who will wear it. It is always important to make sure to allow an inch or so for comfortable fit, as straining against vintage fabric is not a good idea (unless it is a fabric with a fair amount of stretch). In other words, If the waist measurement given is 28", your waist should measure 26"-27" for the garment to fit you comfortably.
A helpful hint for determining whether a vintage item will fit you is to compare the measurements given with those of a similar garment that does fit you.
