Jewelry for the modern romantic. Fresh and simple homage to classic Art Deco, Art Nouveau & Boho styles using Vintage/Antique stamps, Semi-Precious beads, and Quartz Crystals.
**I will be donating 100% of my funds to the BLM movement and COVID related crises. Please follow me on Instagram @aprildlaird to see who I am supporting.**
I am a hobbyist jewelry designer, but I've been a jewelry fanatic and tinkerer as long as I can remember!
I still have a very demanding day job, working in the art department for television productions, so "Smithy" is my outlet and escape from work.
My ideas and design styles are constantly changing as I am inspired by different things, so check back often to see what I'm currently working on.
Feedback is welcomed and appreciated as well!

5 out of 5 starsI thought I would love the Onyx and Hematite, and I was right. The brass chain gives it a really vintage look. I'm sure I'll order from SmithyJewelry again!

A natural hobby taken to the next level.
Smithy Jewelry was born from my deep affinity of jewelry, accessories, and crafting. What began as a gifting hobby & diy fun is now a growing small business. By combining nuances of bohemian Art Deco and Art Nouveau, I strive to emulate the sophistication of the Jazz Age through modern handmade craftsmanship. I create wearable art for fashion forward romantic women, and I could not be happier doing so.
From a young age, I was enamoured with styles of the early twentieth century. My favorite books and movies were always set in the 1900s-1930s and I found the women's movement in those times especially fascinating. Believe it or not, I wanted to be a suffragette; those women are such an inspiration to my life and my work!
My mother was a full time school teacher and our bread winner, but she still made time on the side to create and sell various crafts and gifts. As a child, I helped Mom paint and assemble her wood and ceramic goods and assisted at craft fairs, which I loved. Crafty creativity is in my blood. As I got older, I realized that I naturally gravitated toward jewelry and metalworks. My fascination with jewelry really gave me a unique voice as an adolescent.
My other passion, film and tv media, is where I first started my career. After graduating film school in 2006, I moved to LA, where I currently work as an art department prop assistant and set dresser for network television. I love my day job, but something was missing. Like my mom, I was always crafting on the side and making gifts for friends and family.
Eventually, some of my friends convinced me to sell a bit of my jewelry and perhaps try my hand at opening an Etsy shop. It didn't take me long to decide which styles I wanted to convey in my designs. Owning and operating a small handmade business is no small task, but it is hugely gratifying!
I named my company after my grandfather, John Smith (really, that was his name) who was my biggest influence and personal hero growing up. Even though he's not with us anymore, his words are the driving mantra behind Smithy Jewelry. "Do what you love and the rest will follow." That's what I believe and what I hope comes through in my work.
