About

Huggable art; delightful decor!

Greetings from Snooterville Junction, home of Snooter-doots™ - our whimsical, soft-sculptured, collectible toy/dolls inspired by nature; featuring fantasical vegetables, bugs, fish, birds, animals, food, and friendly monsters.

More than just toys, their mission is to inspire smiles, generate joy, and to look really cool on the couch as collectibles or décor items.

Snooter-doots are entirely handcrafted. Their shell is hand-knit to shape from wool and other natural fibers, then wet-felted. Once stuffed with fiberfill, we attach their signature wonky eyes by needle-felting. No two are alike. Each has personality with its own name and birthday, making them perfectly prepared for ‘adoption’. They are created in our in-home studio in West Seattle, WA, and marketed at select art fairs, on-line via our website and Etsy, and through select retail outlets throughout the country.

Let me introduce myself. I'm "Mama Snooter", aka Gina McCauley. I have been crafting, in one form or another, most of my life. I learned to knit when I was seven years old. A neighbor gal had to teach me as my Mom was left-handed (I'm not) and we just couldn't connect. I sewed many of my own clothes in high school, and all of my daughter's clothes when she was a youngster. I enjoyed quilting for a period, but have always returned to knitting as my first crafting love.

I enjoyed working as a consultant to horticultural nursery/greenhouse growers in Western Washington for over 25 years, but my true passion was always to ‘make things’, so now I'm focusing on fiber arts full time.

Where do Snooter-doots come from? Rumors of their existence began circulating about 27 years ago, but they had not been seen for many, many years.

When she was barely five years old, young Miss Tara told her mother a fantastical story about the Snooter-doots, and their friends Popipity-The Squirrel, Dig-dirt -The Man, and the Ol’ Bix. Her mother loved the story, but didn’t quite understand its significance at the time. So, she tucked it away in her mental library, and promised to do something with it some day.

Over the years Miss Tara’s mother toiled away at her various jobs, some she enjoyed more than others. In her heart she knew she really just wanted to ‘make things’. There was an artist hiding within her somewhere. And always she was a friend to the animals, domestic and wild, and had great respect and admiration for Mother Nature and all her wonders.

Popipity-The Squirrel lived in Miss Tara's neighborhood. Since her mother worked from home at the time, Popipity became quite comfortable around her, and relied on Tara’s mother to keep the feeder full of his favorite goodies. Which she did.

Popipity-The Squirrel told the mystical Snooter-doots about this particularly animal friendly and creative person, and advised them that she could act as their new ambassador. Many, many years ago John Strong, the farmer, (aka, Dig-dirt, The Man) was their link to HumanFolk, but they lost his alliance when his beautiful and productive farm was pillaged for industry. The Snooter-doots were heartbroken, and vowed to remain enigmatic forever.

After Popipity's comment, they called a village meeting, and after great debate, the Ol’ Bix, (the wise old crone) whom they respected greatly, convinced the Snooter-doots that HumanFolk were finally thinking carefully about their environment, its creatures, and their care again. So, with a nearly unanimous vote they agreed it was safe to reveal themselves and be known once more.

And here they are! Welcome, Snooter-doots! We're glad you're back!
