Sofie's Sewing Room was "born" after my very dear friend and I retired from the Postal Service. We had both worked as Postmasters and retired in the same year. Being used to having a busy day we needed something to do so we started sewing together. Making new things, learning new things, and just generally having fun. You know there are only so many items you can make for yourself and family. They start looking at you "with pity" that you have nothing more to do than making things for them "that they may never use". So, we decided we needed to find a way to continue to have fun sewing and designing new items that "someone" will want. TA DA - that is where you " our customers" have been a real inspiration to us.

On Jan 4, 2015 I lost my very dear friend, Hedy, to cancer. She was a very large part of our store - Sofie's Sewing Room. Together we were creative in our designs and continually were able to add new and interesting items to our store. I will continue to do so on my own, but, I will miss her smile, sense of humor, and fantastic input to new creations. Her ideas were so unique and I will not be able to think of all of those on my own.

My best selling items are the items that customers have ask me to make for them and I then try listing that item to see if there is a market for it and WOW I usually find that there is such a great response to some of those items that they become a top seller. Thank you Etsy and Special Thanks to all of my customers.

    I am retired and I have been sewing since I was 10 years old. I have 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Once I retired I decided I needed to pursue my hobby of sewing. So, that is how Sofie's Sewing Room was born.

PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR ADDRESS - I cannot be responsible for delays or returned to sender items if the address is wrong. I will work with you to get your item back to you once we have corrected any problem with the address.


I strive to fill orders ASAP - However, during the peak season, October through January, please check the estimated shipment times as I get very busy and it can take up to 2 weeks for some items.

Personalized items and Custom orders will be shipped in the order in which they are received. I strive to get orders out ASAP and the normal times are 5 days - 2 weeks depending on how many orders I have at the time. Please check with me if you need a more definite time frame.

Your orders are shipped via 1st Class mail, unless you upgrade to Priority or Express mail, You will automatically be sent a tracking number from Etsy when the item is shipped. First Class Mail has an estimated delivery time of 2 - 5 business days from the day of shipment - Priority Mail has a 1 - 3 days after shipment - and Express Mail is usually next day, occasionally 2 day after shipment. Please send me your zip code and I will check with USPS for the expected delivery time. Upgrading the shipping DOES NOT make your order a RUSH order, it will be a few days to 2 weeks before it ships. Please contact me if you are needing your item by a certain date so that we can work together to reach that goal.

To keep shipping costs affordable most items are not shipped with insurance. If you wish insurance on your item please contact me and I will adjust shipping costs to reflect the cost of the insurance.

INTERNATIONAL customers are responsible for any fee that their country may impose on items purchased. I have no control or way of checking on an item once it goes through out customs port. I will work with you in anyway that I can if you do not receive your item - first check with your Postal office to see if it is being held for payment of a duty fee. Before I will replace or refund your money there is a 45 day waiting period as many times the package will be delivered or returned to me.
Refunds and Exchanges
If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you may request an exchange or refund of the purchase price within 14 days of delivery of your package. Buyer is responsible for the return shipping cost. If there is a problem of damaged goods or goods not received I will make every effort possible to refund or replace the item. ALL CUSTOM and PERSONALIZED items my not be returned or replaced unless I made the mistake. All shipments will include a delivery confirmation number which should minimize the possibility of lost shipments.
Additional policies and FAQs
Custom orders and personalized items are made in the order in which they are received. Personalized items usually ship within a week but can take up to 14 days during the peak season Oct through Jan.
