Hi 👋🏽 I'm Lori, Welcome to my Shop. SoftCrochetByLoriAnn & This is "My Story"

I'm a wife👰🏻, mom👩🏻, grandmother👵🏼, nurse👩🏻‍⚕️, chef👩🏻‍🍳 maid💁🏻‍♀️chauffeur👩🏻‍💼, events planner🤹🏻‍♀️, house painter👩‍🎨, babysitter🤱🏻, seamstress, electrician, mechanic👩🏻‍🔧, general contractor👷🏻‍♀️, mason, hairdresser💇🏻‍♀️, manicurist💅🏼landscaper👩🏻‍🌾 Pharmacy Technician 👩🏻‍⚕️ And I don't like to do plumbing or windows... but, still do 🙄. And currently...
I’m My own boss👸🏻
🤫 but don’t tell my husband, he still thinks he is 🤣.

I absolutely love💕 doing arts & crafts. I've dabbled in crochet, knitting, sewing, macrame, beading, plastic canvas, cross-stitch, needlepoint, embroidery, knitting looms, basic quilting, painting🎨, drawing and the likes. My favorite always came down to Crochet. With my 5👩🏻‍🎓👩🏻‍🌾👱🏼‍♀️👩🏻👧🏻 daughters it became my de-stress/chill, coping mechanism. And being able to make clothing👗soft toys🐻 Home goods🛍 & gifts🎁... it also made it an economically affordable hobby👍🏼. I was always making something to give away, and that always gave me such happiness 😊 to share a part of my passion 😍 with my family & friends.

I started crocheting when I was about 12, my Aunt Patty taught me the basic stitches and I quickly caught on, and the addiction was well under way. I used to spend my paper route & babysitting money 💵 on yarn. I've always had a project or two or three, started & in a bag stashed in a closet or behind a chair waiting for me.

Even though I graduated from a Technical high school👩🏻‍🎓 where I learned Electro-Mechanical. I was a supervisor at a ChildWorld 🧚🏼‍♀️toy store, AMF bowling alley🎳snack bar attendant 👩🏻‍🍳I was a Tupperware Manager👩🏻‍💼and even got the manager car🚘, and my last job at a Stop&Shop Pharmacy💊as a pharmacy technician👩🏻‍⚕️ which I really loved❤️ I'm a people person.

I truly enjoy being able to be at home with my girls 👩🏻👧🏻after all they are my life force. But I also need to help out financially 💰 And that brings me to Etsy.

In 2015, After years of not knowing why🤷🏻‍♀️ I was always in pain for no apparent reason, I had finally been diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. The random pain and swelling of various joints and muscles made it hard to work standing on my feet for long hours, 😔 hard to function, but I could push myself 🤨 to drive kids to school, cook & clean house... and take the needed breaks. I reluctantly 😞 decided to leave my job that I loved so much 😢. I spent so much time resting this ankle or that knee, or my neck and back. 🤕 I pulled out some old crochet projects to keep my hands & mind busy... 🤗 That Year I made 8 adult afghans a couple dozen scarves🧣 , slippers🧦, mittens🧤 & hats 🎩 .

During one of my flares🤕in the Fall of 2016, my husband asked me, while I was elbow deep in yarn, "Do you really enjoy crocheting?" My instant answer was "Yes, Why?" "Would you want your own business?" he asked. So now I think 🤔 of all the possible 'Ralph Kramden ideas' he could be coming up with, 😂 . Then he told me about Etsy. Where I could not only make things for other people but make some money at it as well. The idea 💡 of selling my crochet never occurred to me😱 I've always gifted.
Could I really sell my handmade crochet items?

In October of 2016 my shop, 🛒 SoftCrochetByLoriAnn, was open for business 🛍 I was so excited🤩 I could turn my love 🥰 my obsession 🤓 my addiction🤪 into a career, where I'm the boss, I can rest😴 when I need to, I can work almost anywhere... 🗺 the backyard🏡 the beach🏖 the park🎠 while we're having play dates or while my girls are in school🏫. I always have a project by my favorite chair in the living room. I have movie night 🍿 with my girls and work at the same time, doing 2 things I really love. I have my phone/office📱📠💻 with me all the time, where Etsy connects me to people who want to buy the very things I love making, 🥰 it's a win win.

I love coming up with my own patterns & ideas 💡 and the ones I've used that are not my own, are credited accordingly. I love the challenge, (it's like a double dog 🐶 dare) when someone asks me "Do you think you could make...?" My mind starts turning gears ⚙️and planning and color🌈 schemes, "Yes, I'm pretty sure I can" and then... I do.

Please contact🗣me with any questions📲. I usually reply within minutes ⏱ Notifications go directly to my phone ☎️ . Special Orders are encouraged👍🏼 and welcomed☺️. Call me crazy🤪 but I love a challenge! I really want you to absolutely love 💕 what I'm making for you.😊🤗

**update October 2019**
I am currently back at my pharmacy technician job, part time 🤞🏼 for as long as my body lets me. I do have & respect my limitations... I will not let psoriatic arthritis & fibromyalgia keep me down.

I faithfully crochet every day, (it’s my meditation) and I consider my Etsy shop orders a top priority.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Contact me, I can personalize just about anything Crochet, to a custom item, fiber, size, color or style.

If you don't see a crochet item you want here, ask me, no Special Order too small. All special orders need to be purchased before work begins, unless agreed upon beforehand.

How long does it take for my special Order?

Times vary, my typical lap Afghan 46"x54" takes about 15 to 20 or more hours of straight crocheting to complete, depending on style. Typically 2 weeks time plus shipping time. Whereas a pair of slippers, hat or a scarf can usually be finished and shipped next day. I will always give a reasonable completion time estimate with all special orders before you purchase. All ready to ship items are mailed out next business day.

How do I come up my prices?

Time, supply cost & skill greatly varies. Looking at my favorite size 46"x54" Afghan, say granny square, made of standard acrylic worsted weight Yarn, is made from approximately 3lbs of various color yarn, and takes on average, 20 hours of straight crocheting to complete. I try to stay competitive with other sellers. I always give a reasonable price, completion time, and accurate USPS shipping fees (where applicable) with all orders.

How long have I been crocheting?

I've always loved crafting (plastic canvas, embroidery, cross stitch, sewing, macrame, to name a few) but crocheting is my favorite. I've been at it since 1982. That’s 38 years.
