A lifelong creative passion

Since I was very young, I have loved creating products from scratch. At the age of five I would make bows out of sticks and "soups" in a bucket from wild parsley and grass. All through my life, I've never been satisfied until I've understood an entire process.

I first learned to knit when I was six years old, and I learned crochet at age twelve and then spinning at thirteen. I honestly can't remember when I learned to sew - it was that long ago!

Today, I've taken my love of creating to a whole new level. In my professional life I'm a computer engineer, and I've brought some of my engineering training to my shop. You'll find that many of my products are designed with a particular focus on their end use, and that many blend beauty and function to make a product greater than the sum of its parts. I always welcome feedback because I want to know how my products perform in the field!

My shop is driven by creative impulses. From my handspun yarn to handmade products of all kinds, almost all of them have started as a desire to make something beautiful, discover a new technique, or explore making something I would like to use myself. My most popular item, the Essential Archery Bracer, was born from a desire for a homemade bracer that fit my style and archery needs. It has been honed by my own experience in archery and a desire to make something that fits how I as an archer would like a bracer to perform.

This shop is the product of my hobby and my passion. I'm an engineer by training and a crafter at heart and I simply love to make things. Yarn, fabric, or leather? They're all good for me and I love bringing out the unique characteristics of each!

Welcome to Solstice Handspun! I hope you like the product selection. With the exception of sewn items that are made with a sewing machine, everything here is made entirely by hand. I don't use machine processes like laser cutting, rivet setters, knitting machines, or even electric spinning wheels. I take pride in knowing that the things I make are the products of my own two hands.

Ready-made orders will be shipped in 2-3 business days upon receipt of full payment by the buyer, and custom orders will be shipped 2-3 business days after completion. Buyers will be given an estimated shipping date by the time they place their order. Buyer is responsible for the cost of the order as well as shipping. In the case of a refund, buyer will be refunded the list cost of the item.

Please also note that eCheck payments made through Paypal can take as many as 8 days to be deposited. Due to this delay, orders paid via eCheck may be shipped later than orders made using other methods.

Etsy is currently working on integrating a shipping calculator into their order process, but until then I charge for shipping in three tiers: Domestic (US), Canada/Mexico, and Everywhere else. Heavy or large items will generally have their own shipping charges. If the order includes multiple items, the additional items are shipped at a discounted rate.
Refunds and Exchanges
Each item is handmade, which can sometimes cause imperfections. Smooth yarns can have slubs, noils, or other inconsistencies and each product is different. I will take returns on items that have damaging structural defects, items that were damaged before or during packaging, or orders that were incorrectly shipped (wrong items, number of items, etc). Custom orders that did not turn out as expected due to a fault in workmanship will be fixed at my expense, but faults due to incorrect measurements, vague specifications, or buyer-damaged materials, etc. will generally be repaired at the buyer's expense. I reserve the right to determine refunds based on my own judgment on a case-by-case basis.
Additional policies and FAQs
I take custom orders on a case-by-case basis. Custom orders are some of my favorite orders, so chances are I will gladly take your request.
I may request various pieces of information depending on the order, possibly including, but not limited to: color, measurements, material, desired appearance and feel, weight, etc. In the absence of necessary information, I reserve the right to decline a custom order.
