    About

    The Journey:

The glass begins from a molten form of over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. Color is added to a blow pipe and a layer of clear molten glass is gathered to encase the colored glass; creating a layer of protection for the color and adding thickness to the piece. A bubble is created into the center of the molten glass and is then blown out until the glass is the desired shape and thickness. The bottom of the vessel is flattened and is then transferred onto another rod to continue the process of opening the mouth of the vessel. Once the piece is completed it is separated from the rod and placed into a kiln where it sits at 920 degrees Fahrenheit for a few hours before slowly coming down to room temperature over a 20 hour period. This process is called annealing and is very important as it releases any tension in the glass to prevent cracking in the piece. Once the glass is cooled down it is then inspected by eye for any imperfections before being signed and cleaned for shipment.
