About

Bright, bold accessories with an innovative flair.

Born in Albany, NY, I grew up in a hot, sunny, tropical country in West Africa called the Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire). I often visited the bead stalls at the outdoor market with my mother, gushing over the strands and strands of bright, boldly colored exotic beads from all around the world. Agate, Malachite, brass, glass, and who-knows-what-else beads hanging from my favorite vendor's stalls screamed at me to take them home. These little treasures had me hooked! My friends and I started making jewelry with these beads early on, putting on mini trade shows in our living rooms where our parents felt obliged to purchase our bead masterpieces - thanks, Mom! :)

After returning to the US and during my time at the Rhode Island School of Design, I really started to miss certain elements of life in the Ivory Coast, like walking down the street and seeing throngs of women, men and children wearing brightly patterned fabrics in their everyday clothes. Junior year at RISD, I started making my Wrap Wallets and Clutches out of colorful, African print fabrics. These turned out to be a hit at the Student Art Sale, and I kept going from there!

I've continued to amass a collection of printed fabrics, patterned papers and beads throughout the years, which I love incorporating in my illustrations (http://lizzunon.com/Illustration.html) as well as my handbags and jewelry. I started creating my own designs and screen-printing them on fabric as well- which is highly addictive! Have you ever tried it?

I'm thrilled by simple, unconventional combinations and I make my pieces as a tribute to the beauty of everyday moments past: by capturing these in something tactile and reminding people of what they're missing by rushing through life. Most recently with my “After the Rain” collection, I tried to capture the exhilaration I feel when I am thoroughly inspired by fleeting moments in nature, like dewdrops on leaves and grass, light bursting through a canopy of trees, and sun-showers.

I can't not make something when I feel inspired by a moment, a color combination, a memory. I want to see beauty every day and hang onto inspiring moments. I hope you enjoy!
