About SongandBranch

On Etsy since 2008

Song and Branch Studio

I am a solo ceramic artist who works in her studio in New Mexico. I started in 2008 in Seattle, mostly self-teaching myself with forays into classes under whatever master potters I could afford (waves to Barbara Dunshee). By 2014 I was selling at Seattle's Pike Place Market. I am most known for my animal trinket bowls, my stripy eared owls and miniatures. Back in 2019 I was at Railyards and Downtown Market in Albuquerque but I ended up sitting out 2020 and I was too late to sign up for 2021 and also I have hurt my knee so markets are a bit of a struggle! I should be back to market hijinks in 2022. My pieces are for sale in Old Town Albuquerque in the Patio area (look for the signs for the Blackbird Cafe), the gallery where my pieces sell is called Collected Hands Studio in that courtyard! Say hello to Tammy, she's awesome. Please continue to be careful of Covid and keep on keeping on folks, we almost have it beat! So much looking forward to markets, renn faires and swap meets in the future!

    Owner, Maker, Designer, Curator

I am a person that makes sculptures and does the actual shipping, packing and worrying about putting fragile things in the hands of other people.

  • Mia

    Morale Officer

Far more adorable and interesting than the lead of Song and Branch, Mia's job is to make sure that Karen gets up and stretches and goes for walks between sculpting sessions.

  • drunk possum

HSSSSSSSS!!!! Possum does the drinking for me. My spiritual advisor in all things photographical and philosophical, drunk possum knows all and sees all. She gets the listings done.

  • Cara

    Customer Service

Not exactly customer service but she is ON MY KEYBOARD when I am responding to emails.

Shop policies

Welcome to my shop.

My items are handmade. I do use the occasional commercial stamp or commercial sprig mold that is then added to a greater whole, but most commonly what you see is created from from my mind and worked mostly with my fingers. For tiny pieces, I am often unable to see the piece as I work on it, so many of my minis are works of touch on clay.

Do forgive occasional flaws, cracks and stress marks. If I wanted perfect, I would make them perfect - I am capable of making my pieces anatomically correct - but then each would take hours and the prices would be much more expensive and it would take me a year to fill a kiln! Their flaws are part of their beauty - flaws attract washes, glazes and underglazes to pool in them. I am imperfect myself, so I understand these creatures of mine :)

Returns and exchange details
If breakage of an item is due to my negligence in packing, I will refund or exchange the item. Please take a picture if at all possible in the case it is an insured package so I can recoup.

If you simply don't like the item, return the item within 30 days of its arrival and I will refund the price of the item. I want you to be happy with your experience. I completely understand that the translation of computer screen to actual object is sometimes deceiving - especially on the matter of scale and exact color. Try not to be nasty, believe me when I say it is never my intent to deceive when I make a listing.

For some of my pieces, such as my larger sculptures, a small amount of breakage may be inevitable. If this happens, I will send information on how to repair. Minor repairs do not effect the value/beauty of a sculpture, since they are not functional items.

I am sorry but I cannot refund for personalized items - anything that has a name on it, initials or uncommon/rude sayings is something that I cannot resell. In the case of personalized items I will send you pictures of the item before you finish the purchase - once it is shipped, it is yours.
I do not accept personal checks in place of money orders.

For non payment, after two days I will contact, wait another day and contact again. If I do not receive a response in a 1 week period, I will cancel the order and relist. I will not leave negative feedback as I understand that things happen.
I ship once a week, more often when it is busy or before I go on vacation or go to a big show just to make sure things are tidy.

Please let me know if you need it rushed, it's really no problem at all.

I ship in the US via the cheapest method possible. There is little difference in the arrival of small packages (for my miniatures for example) via 1st class and priority usps mail. I have actually had 1st class packages beat priority to nearby states.

International buyers - Please be aware of your country's customs fees and taxes. I am not liable or responsible for paying for them. I will not refund items refused because of customs fees because it isn't my fault you did not want to pay them. I ship usps lst class international. There is no insurance. Contact me if you feel you want express/priority/insurance etc.

Etsy includes insurance in their shipping. For pieces/shipments that go over their $200 coverage I will add insurance.

If there is a large difference in quoted shipping and actual shipping cost, I will refund the difference. If you notice a discrepancy, don't be afraid to ask, I am often absent minded and will gladly refund.
Additional policies and FAQs
When custom ordering, please allow a four to six week creation, bisque fire and glaze fire cycle time. Because I am just one person, I do not fill my kiln immediately. It's more efficient to fire a full kiln! Please keep in mind that ceramics are not an exact calling and that the first attempt at your piece may not turn out. I may have to do it twice. Please be patient! The second attempt will not cost you anything unless there was a big change in plan during the project.

My minimum commission is $60. The exception to this are commissioned small blue trinket bowls, which are always $20 since the scope and size of the project is tiny and can be worked into my production work. Unique pieces always take me extra time however, which is why I impose a minimum.
