About

About Sophie Divett Jewellery

After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2012, I decided to put my love of constructing small, fragile sculptural objects in to the creation of this jewellery line, Sophie Divett Jewellery. Originally from Christchurch, I now work from my home studio in Wellington, where my work often involves hand-carving individual pieces and creating one-off bespoke jewels.

Working in a range of materials such as bronze, resins, sterling silver and precious gems, my aesthetic frequently draws upon the delicately flawed beauty of natural forms, and repetitive textures and patterns found in nature. Through my work I try to be as environmentally responsible as possible and only work with ethically sourced metals.

I am currently studying at Whitireia New Zealand toward a Bachelor of Applied Art (BAppA) specialising in Jewellery Design.

The boxes this company makes for me are hand-crafted locally from sustainably sourced Rimu. Proceeds from each box go toward forest regeneration initiatives.

They recycle and refine metal, and cast my pieces for me. They have the equipment and capability to do it in a much more efficient and environmentally friendly manner.

-Repair the damaged piece, at my own expense

If you have an item that you believe is faulty or misrepresented, please contact me and I'll do whatever I can to make sure you're happy!

Please bear in mind that this policy does not cover negligence, misuse or wilful damage. Jewellery is delicate and should be treated nicely :) Please see below for information on how to care for your jewellery.

Jewellery Care

All handmade jewellery needs to be treated with care to ensure it stays in good condition. By taking a few simple precautions, you can make sure your new jewels will last you through years of enjoyment.

Wearing
When wearing your jewels, try to avoid any hard knocks or scratches.
Put jewellery on after making sure any cosmetics or perfumes you may also be wearing have thoroughly dried. This is especially important for pieces that have resin coatings or glues, as some chemicals in cosmetics might alter colours or cause glues to deteriorate.

Remove all jewellery before going swimming, cleaning, gardening or doing any activities where your piece is likely to come in to contact with water, solvents or dirt.

Oxidation
Some people find that certain metals can cause their skin to turn slightly green. This is more common with alloys such as bronze and brass, but can also happen with gold and silver, though it is much less common. The cause of this is a chemical reaction between the acids in your skin and the metal of the ring, or between a lotion or liquid that has come in to contact with the ring. The green colour is not harmful in itself, but you can avoid or minimise this by keeping soaps, lotions or other chemicals away from your ring, and avoid wearing it while it is wet.

Storing
Store your jewellery pieces separately if possible to prevent them from unnecessarily knocking together or becoming tangled. A soft lined box or pouch is best.

Cleaning
Clean your sterling silver, brass or bronze jewellery using a solution of warm water and a small amount of mild liquid dish soap. Rub gently with a soft cotton cloth or soft toothbrush. Allow to dry completely before storing.

For pieces that have more delicate elements such as opaque stones or resins, wipe gently with a damp, soft cloth or polishing cloth.

If you feel uncertain about how to clean your jewellery, please do not hesitate to contact me, or alternatively, take it to a manufacturing jeweller who is likely able to use professional tools to clean it for you.
Payment
The easiest method of payment is with a credit card through Etsy's direct checkout, or with Paypal. If neither of these options suit, get in touch and I am happy to arrange alternate options with you.
Shipping
All items are individually packaged in a presentation box made of post-consumer recycled paper, lined with natural Corriedale wool from Otago. For posting, I securely wrap your parcel to ensure there is no damage in transit. As I try to be environmentally responsible, the padding around your gift-box is likely to be recycled packaging materials.

I do my best to ship all items within 24 hours of receiving payment, or as soon as the item is made for made-to-order jewellery. If there is any unexpected delay, I will be sure to let you know. For custom orders, please allow for extra time for your piece to be made- this will be specified in the listing.

NEW ZEALAND CUSTOMERS: Shipping is free! Your items are sent using New Zealand Couriers. Your parcel is tracked and will usually arrive the next working day, or a little longer for some areas.

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: Because I want to make sure that your order arrives on time, all international orders are sent using International Courier with New Zealand Post, which is tracked. I offer this at a subsidized rate of NZD$35 (usually NZD$49) because it is the best and safest option.

International orders over $1000 are sent by tracked courier for FREE.

DISCLAIMER: Please check the customs regulations of your country BEFORE making your purchase- all countries have different restrictions on what is and isn't allowed in, and what charges apply to specific items. If you have difficulties receiving your item through customs, let me know and I'll do what I can to help. All customs charges are to be paid by the purchaser, so please research first!

Sizing

Because all rings at Sophie Divett Jewellery are made to order, you can specify exactly which size you would like. If you are unsure of your size, I recommend going to your local jeweller to be sized correctly. This is by far the best way to ensure a perfect fit. If you live in Christchurch, I am happy to size your fingers personally- contact me to arrange a time.

For more information on sizing, visit the webpage below for a detailed guide:
