Hand spun yarns and other simple treasures from my heart and hands

For as long as I can remember, I liked to make things and to write stories, too.
My mom taught me to crochet when I was in grade school. I would spend hours making all sorts of things--granny square hot paints, an obscene bikini (that I never wore), sweaters, shawls and I don't know what else. I spent hours staring at the ravine in our backyard, writing poems, drawing, dreaming.
As I grew older, I tried to be responsible. I went to law school and became an attorney. I didn't really like the work, but I did it for a few years. Then I moved to Chicago, where I still live, and went to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I worked part time in law and spent the rest of my time painting, mostly.
After my daughters were born, I stayed home, cared for them and kept painting and making stuff with them and on my own.
Eventually, I became a Waldorf teacher. I've taught at the Chicago Waldorf School for 18 years--nursery class and parent-child classes. They have been lots of fun and I get to make lots of stuff --for my classroom, with the parents and children--plus I get to play a lot!
Maybe because I love fairy tales so much, I always fantasized about spinning. A few years ago, I gave myself a birthday present of a weekend spinning retreat at Esther's Place, and I was hooked! Since then I've been spinning away.
The name for my shop was inspired by a poem by Rudolph Steiner that we say at school at the end of assemblies. It reflects what I aspire to in my life and my art----

To Wonder at Beauty…
By Rudolph Steiner

To wonder at beauty,
stand guard over truth
Look up to the noble,
resolve on the good
This leads us truly,
to purpose in living
To might in our doing,
to peace in our feeling
To light in our thinking,
and teaches us trust
In the working of God,
in all that there is
In the width of the world,
in the depths of the soul.

I am a handworker, artist, writer and teacher. I love to work and play with color and texture. I like things that sparkle and jingle. I like to make stuff and get messy. My two amazing daughters have taught me about love, wonder and joy.
