¡La belleza surge en los lugares más inesperados! No recuerdo cuándo no me fascinaban las telas y la costura. Mi abuela, por un lado, era sombrerera y confeccionaba elaborados sombreros de terciopelo y otras telas misteriosas, además de crear elegantes vestidos, trajes y abrigos para su hija, una mujer adelantada a su época, que viajaba por el país vendiendo productos de belleza. Mi otra abuela combinaba todo tipo de encajes y telas delicadas (usaban el nombre de "lawn" para describir estas telas de algodón ligeras como plumas) para crear ropa infantil al estilo tradicional sureño. ¡Así que me sale de forma natural, se podría decir!
Además, me enamoré perdidamente de mis hijos cuando nacieron y los sentí como pequeñas princesas y un pequeño príncipe que debía vestirse como la realeza. ¡Eso me impulsó a emprender el camino que culminó en Southern at Birth!
Ahora que mis hijos ya están grandes, he vuelto a esas raíces, pero con un toque nuevo. Todos estos intereses se han combinado con el crochet, los monogramas y la costura. ¡Esto satisface mi creatividad!
Creo firmemente que ya sea que estés limpiando una cara sucia, arropando a alguien, lavando platos o asistiendo a una boda, puedes hacer todas esas cosas con gracia y belleza.
Beauty rises in the most unexpected places! I don't remember when I was not fascinated by fabrics and sewing. My grandmother on one side was a milliner, making elaborate hats of velvet and other mysterious fabrics while also fashioning chic dresses, suits and coats for her ahead of her time daughter who traveled the country selling beauty products. My other grandmother pieced together all manner of laces and delicate fabrics (they used the name "lawn" to describe these light as a feather cottons) to create children's clothing in the old Southern tradition. So I come by it naturally you might say!
Add in the fact that I fell head over heels in love with my children when they were born and felt they were little princesses and one little prince who should be dressed like royalty. That started me on my journey that has culminated in Southern at Birth!
Now that my kids are up and grown, I have returned to those roots, but with a new twist. All of these interests have combined with crochet, and monogramming and sewing. This satisfies my creative urge!
I feel strongly that whether you are wiping a messy face or tucking someone in, doing dishes or attending a wedding, you can do all those things with grace and beauty.
