We really enjoy the amazing scents that come along in these products for our spa. This time it seemed like there was a trace of chocolate in every container though, even the ones that clearly don't have it in. Maybe it was just this batch. Every other order has been fabulous!

I just love these lotions. This is the second time I've ordered from this shop and continue to be satisfied with the product. Nice, thick lotion, fabulous flavors :)

About

Handmade Soaps and Lotions with a Southern Flair

I started making soap for myself about ten years ago when I realized my skin was too sensitive for commercial soaps. I primarily use olive and coconut oils in my soaps, and I keep the scents light for those who have sensitivities to over-perfumed soaps. I added lotions to my shop shortly after opening up, using the best quality ready-made base I could find.

Now all my products are made by me in my home in Wilmington, NC. I love the quality of handmade lotion - it absorbs like nothing on the market commercially, and handmade soap is just plain better for your skin.

I've been selling on Etsy for a little over four years now, and I love the stories I hear from my customers who tell me how much better their skin is when they use my products.

Welcome to my soap shop!

I've been making soap for about 8 or 9 years now, mostly for family enjoyment. I'm allergic to the fumes in most commercial cleaners, so I've learned to make a wonderful cleaning soap with nothing more than olive oil and essential oils added to it after I've liquefied the soaps.

I have bought some wonderful scents, and since I could not resist experimenting with them, I have ended up with a great deal of soap in my house. So, I thought to myself, why not just open up another shop and start SELLING all those wonderful smelling little bars of soap?

So I did.

The soaps here use oils that are good for your skin. I primarily use olive oil, as it is widely available and one of the least expensive oils for soap-making. I often add other, more exotic oils, however, for their moisturizing and bar-hardening properties. 100% olive oil soap is wonderful, but it is not as hard as a bar that has coconut oil or palm kernal oil in it.

The lotion base I use is a beeswax based lotion base without parabens or phthalates. The isopropyl palmitate in it (a form of palm kernal oil) is sustainably sourced - I checked with my supplier.

Some terms I use:

trace: this is when the lye solution and oils have completely mixed, and I can see where I have been as I am mixing. I can "draw" on the top of the batter with the soap coming off my mixer.

superfatting: this is awesome - this is when I add really cool oils and butters like jojoba oil and shea or cocoa butter. These will still be present in the final product and give the bars a luxurious feel.

kaolin clay: A white clay I use primarily in my shaving soaps. It helps provide slip for your razor so you don't get razor burn.

sodium lactate - a liquid salt that is naturally derived from the natural fermentation of sugars found in beets and corn. It is a natural humectant, which means is helps provide moisture, and it serves to make a bar of soap harder so it lasts longer in the shower.
