Besides Moose and Beaver Pillows, Sparrow Avenue also has pillows with other well known Canadian animals such as this Musk Ox. Not too many people are familiar with Musk Oxen, a Northern climate herbivore left over from the Ice Age. So here in s one now!

About

Sparrow Avenue is home to an urban wilderness of original drawings on textiles that I sew into everyday items.

Ever since I was little, I have been drawing animals.

There were many visits to the Royal Ontario Museum to which I brought my sketching materials and sat for hours drawing the animals.

For a number of years I illustrated children's books and added animals where ever I could into the images.

Over the years, traveling became an important part of my life. I have traveled to many places around the world but my most memorable, was a road trip across Canada with my dad. He had built a "camper" clad in pink aluminium on the back of a 1954 Ford dump truck. And off we went one July morning.

That trip was packed full of adventures that I will never forget. There were many break downs, flat tires and even one evening on a lonely hi-way the motor caught fire! But it didn't matter because we were on the trip of a lifetime and we knew it.

But it was in Yukon and Alaska, our destination, where the mountains are unspeakably stunning that we saw, wild and free, moose, grizzly bears and caribou. It was an incredible experience that eventually brought about the making of Sparrow Avenue.

All my life I have been drawing animals. On the walls, on scraps of paper, in the margins of school books and finally in sketch book. After many years as a children's book illustrator, I learned how to screen print. And so began Sparrow Avenue.

Sometimes colours may appear differently on your computer screen from the actual item. Be sure to read my description of items where I describe the colours to the best of my ability.

My work is all handmade and as such there may be slight variations from the photographed item but that is part of what makes handmade so desirable.
