Die Idee zu SpecificityFinds entstand aus unseren eigenen Erfahrungen bei der Suche nach individuellen Möbelstücken und Accessoires für unser Zuhause.
Geschmäcker und Trends kommen und gehen, und als wir älter wurden, begannen wir natürlich, uns von der Anziehungskraft aktueller Massenproduktionsmöbel zu entfernen und spürten den Reiz der Mid-Century-Möbel, an die wir uns in unseren Kindheitshäusern erinnerten, und von Upcycling-Stücken, die denen von ähnelten unsere Großeltern.
Wir machten uns auf die Suche nach besonderen Stücken, denen wir noch vor ein paar Jahren keinen Platz zu Hause gegeben hätten, und haben sie modernisiert, um sie einzigartig zu machen. Es hat uns sehr viel Spaß gemacht, etwas zu nehmen, das derzeit unerwünscht ist, und es so zu verbessern, dass es zu einer Obsession geworden ist. Wir können einfach nicht an allem festhalten, was wir kreieren, und so entstand unser Shop.
Unser Prozess beginnt damit, ein rettungsbedürftiges Möbelstück zu finden, das etwas Besonderes ist. Es kann sein, dass es besonders gut verarbeitet ist, schöne Details oder Formen hat oder dass es noch eine Spur davon hat, was es einmal war und wieder sein könnte.
Anschließend reinigen und zerlegen wir das Teil, verwerten alle wiederverwendbaren Teile und führen notwendige Reparaturen durch, zum Beispiel das Neukleben von Verbindungen oder den Austausch von Schubladenböden.
Wir versuchen, jedes Möbelstück, das wir aktualisieren, anders zu gestalten als das letzte, und was wir tun, wird vom Stück selbst bestimmt.
Unser Ziel ist es nicht, alte Möbel wie neu aussehen zu lassen, sondern ein Gleichgewicht zwischen der Beibehaltung ihres Charmes und ihrer Geschichte und der Wiederverwendung für modernes Wohnen zu finden.
The idea for SpecificityFinds grew from our own experiences of trying to find individual pieces of furniture and accessories for our own homes.
Tastes and trends come and go, and naturally as we became older we began to move away from the pull of current mass produced furniture, and felt the allure of the mid-century furniture we remembered in our childhood homes and upcycled pieces similar to those of our grandparents.
We started searching for those special pieces that only a few years ago we would not have given house room, and updated them to make them one of a kind. We found this very enjoyable, taking something currently undesirable and improving upon it, to the point that it has become an obsession. We simply can't hold on to everything we create, and that is how our shop was born.
Our process begins with finding a piece of furniture that is in need of being rescued that has something special about it. It can be that it is made particularly well, has nice details or shape, or that it still has a trace of what it once was and could be again.
We would then clean and strip the piece, salvage any re-useable parts, and make necessary repairs, for example re-glueing joints or replacing drawer bottoms.
We try to make every piece of furniture that we update different from the last, and what we do is dictated by the piece itself.
Our aim is not to make old furniture look brand new, it is to find a balance between retaining its charm and history and making it useful again for modern living.
