Rush orders- may be possible, but please get in touch with me before you order.

All pieces are created solely by me in my Vancouver, Canada, studio. Please keep reading for information on my production time, shipping, and insurance on purchases.

PRODUCTION TIME- PLEASE READ:

Please be sure to check my current production time and your delivery time BEFORE you purchase. My current production times are listed at the top- look way up.

This production time CAN BE LONGER, as I am a very busy one-person studio. SHIPPING TIMES are also listed- if the shipping time is longer than you wish, please ask for a postal upgrade. Please make note of this information before your purchase, and ask any questions about rush orders or postal upgrades prior to checking out.

Most of my pieces are made-to-order. Please see individual listings, which will state whether the piece is custom, or ready to ship.

If you have a firm 'need by' date, please make sure you let me know- otherwise, I will do my best to produce your piece in the abovementioned timeframe, but please understand that this can take longer- I am an extremely busy one-person show

INSURANCE AND SHIPPING-

Your piece will be insured as you request, if different from what is in the listing. However, the declared value of your item will be listed on the import/export paperwork- this is the amount you paid for your item. It will be marked as 'merchandise', and not a 'gift'. I am not authorized to collect your country's import fees and taxes, and they are not included in your purchase price. If you are unsure of the import fees/regulations for your country, please contact your local Customs office for precise information.

Less-expensive pieces ship using regular Air Mail shipping, which has a delivery guideline of 4-10 business days into the USA- however, there is no time guarantee from Canada Post on this. International delivery takes around 2 weeks or longer. Also, Air Mail does not include a tracking number. It does not include insurance. This shipping method is $8.50 into the USA.

Costlier pieces are sent into the USA with Fed Ex Ground (4-10 business days estimated delivery time, tracking number and $100 of insurance included). This shipping method is about $28 into the USA.

My custom ring sets and most costly pieces are sent using Overnight Purolator or Fed Ex ($35 into the USA, $65 to most places Internationally, NO insurance provided) or Canada Post Expresspost for $25 with $100 of insurance (3-5 days of travel time). I want them in your hands as quickly as possible once they are complete! Contact me for the cost of an insurance upgrade, if you would like your pieces insured for their full value. I cannot replace nor refund for pieces that ship without full insurance. Please note that it is no longer possible to insure jewelery shipments out of Canada for more than $1000.

Please get in touch for assistance with figuring out the shipping method you need, or to upgrade your shipping method and insurance.

RAW DIAMOND SIZING: I have a huge collection of conflict-free rough diamonds, and they are my favourite specimens to work with. I have finally started sorting my white and silver crystal cluster diamonds by size, and have made listings for each size category. The categories are Size A (1.5-2mm), Size B (3.5-4mm), Size C (5-6mm), Size D (6.25-7.5mm), Size E (8-10mm), and Huge (done by caratweight, over 10mm).

SHOP POLICIES: Please see my policies for information on shipping, resizing, returns, and jewelry care- http://www.etsy.com/shop_policy.php?user_id=7237531

LAYAWAY: Get in touch if you see something you like, but can't buy until later. I am generally able to place pieces on hold.

BUYERS OUTSIDE OF CANADA: Please note that I am not able to estimate for you what your country will charge you in import fees when you buy a piece from me. Any import fees, taxes, brokerage fees, etc. are assessed by your government. These fees cannot be estimated nor collected by me, and are not included on your invoice from me. Please call your country's customs office if you would like an idea of fees that may be levied upon your purchase.

I love my wedding ring so much - it's just beautiful. It matches perfectly with my Specimental engagement ring and Laura made special effort to ensure it arrived in Australia in time for our wedding. So thankful.

About

Rough Diamonds, Raw Gemstones, and Recycled Gold Bespoke Jewelery

I am a graduate of the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design (now a university) here in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I was a school teacher for 17 years, the last 15 of which I was fortunate enough to have spent as a high school art teacher. So, I was very lucky to have had two absolutely fun jobs that challenged me in all of the right places.

Over the last few years, Specimental grew to be such a job that I could no longer stay in the teaching profession: jewelery designing and making, along with my three young children, called for all of my time. Teaching, sadly, had to go. I now work full-time in my home studio, designing pieces, metalsmithing, stone setting, providing customer service, photographing pieces, packing, and shipping my pieces around the globe.

All of my pieces are fabricated, which means they are cut and forged by hand from sheet, tube, and wire. I work in all colours and karats of gold, as well as sterling silver and platinum.

I am most excited about my work when I am coming up with custom pieces- please feel free to get in touch with me about your ideas.

Payment
PAYPAL:
I accept Paypal (you don't need a Paypal account to use Paypal, just a bank account or credit card- follow along with the steps after you decide to purchase. It's really easy, and if you hit a snag I will help you out).

NEED HELP WITH CHECKOUT? Click on this link for easy instructions on paying for your Etsy purchase: http://www.etsy.com/help_guide_checkout.php

DIRECT CHECKOUT:
I can process credit cards through Etsy's Direct Checkout service.

ETSY GIFT CARDS:
Etsy Gift Cards are processed through Direct Checkout.

MONEY ORDERS:
I will accept international money orders- please be sure that these are the international kinds, as I am unable to negotiate USA (or other) domestic money orders, and will have to send it back to you if you send one in error.

CHEQUES:
I can also accept personal cheques from fellow Canadians, but the cheque must clear prior to shipping.

I can accept personal cheques from my American customers, but the waiting period for these to clear at my bank is 21 days. Work will not begin on custom pieces, resizing, etc. until after this waiting period, so please add that time on to the regular lead time.

EMAIL MONEY TRANSFER:
In Canada, you can send me an Email Money Transfer. Again, this is really easy to do.

WIRE TRANSFER:
Finally, for those out of Canada, you can send me a wire transfer- just contact me for the necessary information. This method does incur an ten dollar charge on my end, which will be added to your invoice.
Shipping
I SHIP TO your Etsy address, unless otherwise requested. Please double-check that your Etsy address is correct.

WHEN DO I SHIP?
I generally drop packages at the local postal outlet on Mondays and Wednesdays. I am in Vancouver, Canada, so please keep that in mind if you are outside of Canada.

IMPORT FEES AND TAXES:
Your piece will be insured as you request, if different from what is in the listing. However, the declared value of your item will be listed on the import/export paperwork- this is the amount you paid for your item. It will be marked as 'merchandise', and not a 'gift'. I am NOT authorized to collect your country's import fees and taxes, and they are not included in your purchase price. If you are unsure of the import fees/regulations for your country, please contact your local Customs office for precise information.

SMALL PACKET AIR MAIL- ITEMS UNDER $250
I ship most earrings, silver rings, and necklaces using Canada Post, Small Packet Air Mail. $100 of insurance is included in the posted shipping rate, but a tracking number is not.

TRACKING NUMBER: As is noted below, Small Packet Air Mail does NOT include a tracking number.

If you wish to have a tracking number provided, then you need to contact me prior to having your piece shipped- I will then upgrade your shipping to Expedited (same shipping time as Small Packet, or a bit longer)- BUT this shipping method costs $28 to the USA. If you let me know before check-out, I can change the Etsy listing to reflect the higher shipping rate. If you let me know after check-out, I will send a Paypal invoice for the remainder. Unfortunately, I cannot upgrade your shipping until the full shipping amount is paid.

Packages sent using Small Packet Air are double-packed (either two boxes, or a box plus a rigid jewelry holder) and well-padded, in order to ensure the safe delivery of your new piece.

***SHIPPING TIME TO THE USA- Canada Post guidelines state that when sent through Small Packet Air Mail, your item should arrive in 4 to 10 business days.

ITEMS OVER $250
Costlier items are always sent with a tracking number, delivery confirmation, and $100 of insurance. Delivery times range from overnight to 10 business days, depending upon the shipping method. Please make note of the insurance policy- you may buy as much insurance as you wish for your parcel, as this is the amount it will be covered for if it becomes lost or damaged in transit. Please read down below in the Refund Policy section for more information on your insurance.

INTERNATIONAL (OUTSIDE OF THE USA) DELIVERY times can take up to a week or more longer than the Air Mail times stated above, and can take up to four weeks longer than the Surface Mail times stated above.

***Please choose the shipping option that will get your items to you when you need them- if you are having trouble deciding, please contact me through the shop and I will be more than happy to assist you. Also, if a tracking number is needed, an extra cost is incurred. Please let me know you need it before your piece is shipped.

SHIPPING WITHIN CANADA:
As we Canadians know, shipping within out own country is slow and expensive. The price shown in the listings for shipping within Canada are for the method that will get you your piece in one to two weeks. Quicker shipping methods are available, but are quite a bit costlier.
Refunds and Exchanges
LOST ITEMS:
I will work with you to track down packages that you have had sent with a tracking number (this adds about $20 to the cost of shipping to the USA- please ask about tracking prior to paying the invoice).

Please be aware of the amount your package is insured for- this information can be found in the listing from which you purchase. I cannot be held responsible for pieces that are lost or damaged in the mail, and are not fully-insured. Please get in touch for an insurance upgrade should you wish full insurance.

CHANGED YOUR MIND?
I do not accept returns nor provide refunds on any custom pieces. I always send multiple, detailed photos of your piece before I ship, so you can clearly see what you will be receiving. Please be sure of your commitment to your piece prior to purchasing. I only accept returns due to defects in my workmanship- please note that these refunds will be given at my discretion. Returns of ready-made pieces can be made, but you must notify me within two days of receiving your package that you wish to return. Shipping is non-refundable. Custom pieces can generally not be resold, and there is a great deal of my time and materials cost in each and every piece.

PROBLEMS WITH WORKMANSHIP?
All workmanship is guaranteed for a period of ninety days from the time you receive it. Should any problems occur through normal usage, I will repair it free of charge, including shipping both ways. Please note that if your piece is damaged due to not following the care instructions listed in the section below, I cannot be held responsible for the damage. I will happily fix it for you if I can, but cannot pay for the shipping. Repair may incur a cost, depending on the extent of the damage.

MAKE A MISTAKE WITH YOUR RING SIZE?
I will build your custom ring to the size you give me. Please note that I am required to size up for wider ring bands- please do not do the sizing up for me. I need your accurate, true ring size from which to work. If you size up and do not tell me, your ring will be even larger than you expected.

All ring sizes of ready-to-ship rings are stated in the listings. If I agree to resize a ring prior to shipping it, I will do so to your specifications, at no extra charge.

However, if your ring does not fit the way you assumed it might due to an error in your estimation of your ring size, you may return the ring to me for resizing (again, within two days of receiving, and shipping both ways is not refundable). There is a fee for resizing rings, which will be determined at the time you contact me.

RING SIZING:
If you have any further questions about ring sizing, please get in touch with me through my shop. The best way to get your ring size, other than having a jeweler measure your finger, is to measure the inside diameter of an existing, well-fitting ring. This needs to be done very specifically, to the fraction of the millimeter.

Wider banded rings will be built approximately 1/4 to a full size larger than your ring size- this will ensure for a more comfortable fit. Please DO NOT 'size up' on your own- I need your true, accurate ring size to work from.
Additional policies and FAQs
JEWELRY CARE:
All of my jewelry is solidly constructed. However, any jewelry requires care- do not clean the ring with anything other than water, should the need arise. Please do not allow silver cleaner to touch the specimens, should you choose to use it. I don't use it myself- instead, I clean my gold and silver pieces using a special silver cleaning cloth. It is impregnated with fine garnet powder, which is a mild abrasive- so, please do not rub the specimen with the cloth.

Of course, your specimen will not enjoy being banged on a hard surface, and could fracture if you do so. Please wear with care. If you treat your specimen right, it should last you a lifetime.

RAW DIAMOND RINGS:
Please also note- due to the transparent/translucent and reflective or refractive nature of some of these materials, the type and intensity of light you view them in can affect their appearance- this changeable quality is part of what makes them so lovely.

CUSTOMS FEES: I am shipping from Vancouver, Canada. Any customs fees, import taxes, duties, tariffs, etc. charged by your government are not included in the selling price nor the shipping cost in my shop. Please be aware of any extra costs your country may charge you for importing pieces from Canada.

OTHER STUFF...

I love creating custom pieces. I especially love creating custom pieces with your personal stones, specimens, or other little curiousities.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

I am always open to hearing your design ideas. Please contact me through the shop, or at treloar@telus.net to discuss design possibilities.

Sizing details

If you are unsure of your ring size, the best way to be sized accurately is by visiting two commercial jewelers. Please ensure they size you using their thin sizing tools- not the wide band sizing tools, nor by having you try on rings from their display.

If any questions arise around being properly sized, I am always happy to help- contact me through the shop, or at treloar@telus.net

Gift wrapping and packaging

All of my pieces come ready to present as gifts, in attractive foil stamped jewelry boxes, enclosed in a lovely Chinese faux silk gift bag.

If the person for whom you are purchasing the piece shares your address, please be aware of the following: International export law dictates that the detailed contents of packages, and their value, be clearly marked on the outside of the package. This means that if they see the package before you do, they can easily tell what they are being gifted with.

I am happy to ship to your workplace, a friend, or a relative, when secrecy is necessary. The very best option is to have your package held for you at your closest Fed Ex store- if you are unsure of its location, I'm happy to help.

Wholesale availability

At this time, I do not sell wholesale, nor do I place my pieces on commission.

Recycled Gold

My gold is all recycled- the metal plant I purchase it from has been in business for over 100 years. They smelt their metals to the highest environmental standards, to cause the least impact on the environment. They do not deal with newly mined metals, as these metals cause much greater destruction to the environment.

There is no visible difference between recycled metals and newly-mined metals. There is also no difference as far as the karat of the metals go- 18k recycled gold is exactly the same in constitution as 18k newly mined gold. The vast majority of my clients prefer their metals recycled, as environmental impact is of concern when choosing the perfect piece of jewelry.

Can you recycle my old gold jewelry into a new piece?

No, I cannot. I am not set up to smelt gold in the studio, so am not able to melt down your old gold pieces for you.

Can you reuse my old stones?

I can use your heirloom stones in a new design. The stones must be pulled from their settings and checked for stability by a professional jeweler prior to shipping them to me.

Rush Orders

My current production times are listed in my shop announcement. If you need something more quickly, please get in touch via the shop, or at treloar@telus.net

Depending upon my work and family schedule, I am happy to accommodate your rush orders. There is no additional charge for a rush order. However, please do get in touch prior to ordering to discuss your deadline with me.

Can I order a ring with a different stone, wider band, different texture, or in a different colour/karat of gold?

Yes! All of my pieces are completely hand fabricated in the studio by me, from raw materials. I am able to create any of my designs with any stone, in any composition. In short, you can have your ring absolutely any way you like it. Contact me through the shop, or via treloar@telus.net to get the discussion around your perfect piece of jewelry started.
