¡Hola! Somos Sadhbh y Gary y hacemos todo el arte (en esta tienda de todos modos). Splitting Borders comenzó su vida como un cómic web diario. Sadhbh viajaba por las ferias de artesanía irlandesas manejando mesas con el colectivo de artesanía de su madre desde que era pequeña. Marketeering se convirtió en parte del tejido de la vida y Splitting Borders hizo su primera feria de zine independiente desde el principio de su creación. Vendíamos zines hechos a mano, algunos con cubiertas bordadas, vendíamos postales y marcas de libros. Pasamos a producir grabados y esculturas suaves a partir del trabajo del cómic. Dividir fronteras es la puerta de entrada a nuestros intereses y expresiones artísticas personales. Ha abierto la puerta a algunos grandes proyectos artísticos basados en la comunidad, trabajos teatrales y, más recientemente, a un corto animado de una de nuestras historias cómicas de SB.
Tenemos un interés continuo y hemos desarrollado nuestras habilidades en técnicas creativas artesanales hechas a mano, tales como; dibujos a lápiz y tinta, bordados de bellas artes, animación clásica y creación de libros. Nuestra curiosidad abarca los valores artísticos tradicionales y la formación con la voluntad de experimentar y probar nuevas técnicas.
Nos conocimos en una pequeña universidad de arte irlandesa, donde Gary estudió animación y Sadhbh estudió arte visual y textil. Seguimos haciendo las mismas cosas, solo que juntos. Sadhbh ahora ha escrito cómics y ha sido parte de producciones animadas y Gary ha ilustrado para textiles y diseñado arquitectura de punto. Trabajar juntos significa más arte, más influencias y la oportunidad de aprender muchas técnicas nuevas. Nuestro interés es la expresión y la comunicación. Nos encanta ver cuántas maneras podemos decir las cosas a través de nuestro trabajo. Aquí encontrarás muchas formas de nuestra expresión, pueden ser diferentes, pero todas provienen de nosotros.
Hello! We are Sadhbh and Gary and we make all the art (in this shop anyway). Splitting Borders began life as a slice of life daily web comic. Sadhbh was travelling around Irish craft fairs manning tables with her mother's craft collective since she was a wee one. Marketeering became part of the fabric of life and Splitting Borders did its first independent zine fair early into its inception. We sold handmade zines, some with embroidered covers, we sold postcards and book marks. We went on to produce prints and soft sculptures from the work of the comic. Splitting Borders is the gateway into our personal art interests and expressions. It has opened the door to some great community based arts projects, theatre work and most recently to an animated short of one of our SB comic stories.
We have an ongoing interest and have developed our skills in handmade, craftsman-like creative techniques such as; pencil and ink drawings, fine art embroidery, classical animation and book-making. Our curiosity encompasses traditional artistic values and training with a will to experiment and try new techniques.
We met each other in a small Irish art college, where Gary studied animation and Sadhbh studied visual and textile art. We are still doing the same things, just together. Sadhbh has now written comics and been part of animated productions and Gary has illustrated for textiles and designed knitted architecture. Working together means more art, more influences and the opportunity to learn many new techniques. Our interest is expression and communication. We love to see how many ways we can say things through our work. You will find many forms of our expression here, they may be different but they all come from us.
