Sponthanaeity came about while I was doing my Honours project. I wanted a creative outlet from writing my thesis and already had years of fine arts studies to draw on (no pun intended), so I began creating collages and sculptural pieces from damaged books.
Next came the literary prints, my celebration of a handful of much loved classic novels I return to again and again on my bookshelf.
Then, while I had always loved drawing and illustrating, it took the longest time to build up the confidence to turn my watercolours into prints. Even though it can still feel a bit scary, I'm glad I did, and that's really when the Etsy shop started too.

The stall name is a combination of my name, Hanae, and the word spontaneity, and I'll often attribute this simultaneously terrible and brilliant portmanteau to my Creative Writing degree.
So why Sponthanaeity? Well, thanks to my thirst to develop new ideas and techniques and work with different mediums, my work is always evolving. I may be focusing on collages one year, and painting miniatures on brooches the next! While my mediums may change, I like to think the constants in my work are the quality, ideas, and a love of literature, art, collectables, and pop culture.
What's next? At the moment I'm passionate about intricate hand-painted brooches, lino printing, and developing new work to incorporate my writing.
