About

Thinking outside the box...

I'm not gonna lie - I didn't set out in life to become a jeweller or craftsman of any kind, but sometimes life doesn't always turn out the way you want it to be.

I love making things - I have since a young age, taking materials and making something out of them has always given me a buzz.

I went through schools where arts & crafts were frowned upon, creativity somewhat stifled, and "conventional" careers seen as the only option. I got sucked in, tried to make something of myself in I.T. got the degree and everything...

However that passion for making things never really went away... and having found the jobs market increasingly difficult I've turned my talents to trying to make money myself, seems like it might be wise to do something I love in the process, right?

What to make wasn't so obvious - after all many of the hobbies I have such as photography are saturated with produce which is cheap and well made, how could I compete?

Whilst pondering what to craft my step-mother gave me a book called "Comtemporary Copper Jewellery: Step-by-step Techniques & Projects", and some specialist pliers she got with a beading magazine subscription (but had never used) - I purchased a spool of 18ga copper wire and had a go...

I have to admit I didnt think I would enjoy it, I didnt think it would be for me - but I love it! its such a great feeling taking a boring spool of wire and having a finished piece of jewellery just a few hours later.

This began around August 2011 - I've been making jewellery since then and have greatly improved style and technique and get better everyday. Best of all I seem to get new ideas every day too, I just cant find the resources to craft them all.

I've been trying to sell jewellery on Etsy since around November 2011, and I hope to sell much more so I can try out all my ideas and keep this going - I'd consider myself to be 'living the dream' if I could support myself by making hand made jewellery.

I'm a crafter, keen photographer, and gamer - I've been working metal for some years, but only in the last year or two started crafting hand made jewellery in the workshop.
