Creating Hyper-accurate Spaceflight Scale Models since 2023.
Ik ben Josh en ik ben StarModelsAndDesigns in februari 2023 begonnen, slechts twee maanden voor de eerste Starship-lancering. Ik ben al sinds mijn kindertijd gefascineerd door raketten en ruimtevaart, maar omdat ik in het Verenigd Koninkrijk woonde, waren er geen raketlanceringen of lanceerbases om te bezoeken. De enige manier waarop ik ruimtevaart in huis kon halen, was door middel van modellen van de voertuigen. Ik heb wekenlang gezocht naar een nauwkeurig schaalmodel van de eerste Starship-voertuigen, maar de meeste zagen eruit als speelgoed of hadden onjuiste details. Dus bedacht ik, met de ontwerpvaardigheden die ik in de loop der jaren had opgebouwd en de ongelooflijke referentiefoto's die de ruimtevaartgemeenschap in Starbase (toen nog Boca Chica Village) had gemaakt, dat ik het zelf wel eens zou proberen. En sindsdien ben ik ze blijven verbeteren.
Elk model wordt volledig vanaf nul ontworpen in CAD. Ik werk met de nieuwste, haarscherpe foto's van echte prototypes en technische referenties om elk detail van het voertuig met uiterste precisie vast te leggen. Ik blijf elk ontwerp aanpassen totdat het perfect is, met behulp van hetzelfde iteratieve ontwerpproces waar SpaceX om bekend staat. Van alle 33 Raptor-motoren tot de thermische tegels en de V2-kleppen, ik print, werk ze met de hand af en controleer ze allemaal zelf voordat ze verzonden worden. Niets ervan wordt in massaproductie gemaakt. Elk model wordt door mij op bestelling gemaakt.
Wat je krijgt is een model dat direct klaar is om neer te zetten, zonder dat je hoeft te schilderen of in elkaar te zetten. Het is ook nog eens leuk om mee te spelen. Je kunt het schip en de booster op elkaar stapelen en weer uit elkaar halen, de draaiing van de kleppen aanpassen en je eigen lanceer-, scheidings- en vangmechanisme creëren. Het staat prachtig op een bureau of plank, of hangend aan het plafond, en het is meestal het eerste waar bezoekers naar vragen.
ModelsAndDesigns was een van de eerste winkels die echt nauwkeurige Starship-modellen maakte, en sinds 2023 heb ik er honderden verzonden naar verzamelaars en ruimtevaartliefhebbers over de hele wereld, van hier in het Verenigd Koninkrijk tot de VS en daarbuiten. Ik breid ons assortiment ook voortdurend uit, van de vroege Starship-prototypes tot het nieuwste voertuig, versie 3, de HLS Lunar Lander en de Mechazilla-toren, dus er is meestal wel iets nieuws om aan de collectie toe te voegen. I'm Josh, I started StarModelsAndDesigns back in February of 2023, just two months before the first Starship launch. I've been into rockets and spaceflight since I was a kid, but as I lived in the UK, there were no rocket launches or launch sites to visit; so the only way I could bring spaceflight home was with models of the vehicles. I searched for weeks for an accurate scale model of the early Starship vehicles but most of them looked like toys or got the details wrong. So I figured, with the design skills I had built up over the years, and the incredible reference images taken by the spaceflight community down in Starbase (then Boca Chica village), I'd have a go at making my own, and I've been improving them ever since.
Every model is designed from scratch in CAD. I work from the latest high definition, real prototype photos and engineering references to capture every vehicle detail at extreme accuracy, and I keep tweaking each design until it's right, using the same iterative design process that SpaceX is famous for. Down to all 33 Raptor engines, the thermal tiles and the V2 flaps, I print, hand finish and check every single one myself before it goes out. None of it is mass produced. Each model is made to order, by me.
What you get is a model that turns up ready to display, with no painting or fiddly assembly to deal with. It's good fun to handle too. You can stack and unstack the Ship and Booster, change the rotation of each flap, and run your own launch, separation and catch. It looks great on a desk or a shelf, or hanging from the ceiling, and it's usually the thing visitors pick up and ask about.
ModelsAndDesigns was one of the first shops making genuinely accurate Starship models, and since 2023 I've sent hundreds of them out to collectors and space fans all over the world, from here in the UK to the US and further afield. I'm always adding to our range too, from the early Starship prototypes to the latest Version 3 vehicle, the HLS Lunar Lander, and the Mechazilla tower, so there's usually something new to add to the collection.
