About

Fashion is my passion..

So lets start at the beginning.. My mother, Lesley whom i share the shop with, was the person that inspired me to get into Vintage. I grew up in a one mall town. And never felt like it represented my inner most style. So i decided when i was a teen that it was much better to get a pair of Jeans for 50 cents and have personal style then buy them for 100 at the mall, look like everyone else and have no beer money to spend :-)
I am a Vintage Visionary, working in the industry for about 12 years. I've managed and worked in a lot of Vancouver's Top Vintage clothing stores.
In 2001 I moved to the coast (Vancouver) and became a picker and vintage wholesaler with Hannah Productions. With them i worked with and met many local shop owners and worked with many international vintage pickers.
Then she opened a store on Cambie called Solid Threads and a manager was born. I worked styling many folks that had lost there passion for style and inspired many others. I especially loved taking orders for film and seeing my picking on the big screen.
In 2004 i escaped to Montreal, did a whole lot of nothing, researched getting into fashion design. I was told by a student at the collage that i was interested in that The course was great if you would like to design clothes for middle aged women.. Booo No Thanks.
So I met many fantastic people there and drank my weight ten times over in Wine( as is the custom) and flew back to Vancouver.
In Vancouver, I did a few films working with a wardrobe team, but wow that was disenchanting. I realized that i had no passion for film but had a more direct passion for people. I met a friend of a friend, Aramis and we were fast friends. She also had the same unique passions and we opened an image consulting business called Crimes of Fashion. We catered to quite a few clients and did some wardrobe for indy films, and really had a complete blast.
Then in the summer of 2011, we had the opportunity to open our own store and Starfish and Rose was born. We created a collective of four partners. And off we went.. Had a complete blast did a fashion show competition and beat out some of the top Vintage clothing stores in Vancouver. It was a wild ride, at at that point is where we opened our first Etsy Shop and started to create an online presents. But in 2012 we lost our location to the gentrification of the downtown east side in Vancouver.
And yet again i went searching for inspiration.. But it seemed that my time in Vancouver was coming to an end with no fun in sight. So we moved to the kootenays, and left my poor momma in the city.
And that brings us to the now... Where my relation to Vintage fashion was bore.. In Small Town British Columbia.

Interesting how life comes full circle.. <3
