About

Oh, hello. This is a website.

While I like to take watches apart, it turns out I'm really terrible at putting them back together.

My etsy shop grew out of a fascination with the myriad ways watches could be designed and assembled. A friend wanted steampunk jewelry and we agreed that everything available at the time was ridiculously overpriced. I found a few watches at a local antique dealer that were inexpensive enough to deconstruct and made my first few pendants. I've since gone through hundreds of watches and amassed a massive collection of parts and spare things like pearls and rhinestones.

My collection came with me when I moved from the US to Australia in September, 2011, though the etsy shop has never fully recovered. I've become a fixture at a local artist's market, the Rose Street Market in Fitzroy, selling cufflinks to hipsters and old people buying for their hipster grandchildren. What started purely as a hobby out of a need to do something with all those extra parts laying around has become something I really love and spend too much time doing.

Since being in Australia, I've expanded my scope broadly. There are so many cool, geeky things I could be making! If you have an idea for something that would be great steampunk style, please drop me a line. I love doing custom things.

After moving around the east coast of the US for a few years and trying to figure out what to do after grad school, I've settled down in the northern end of Melbourne, Australia with my partner and two cats.

Madeline helps by making sure everything is nice and solidly attached: she likes to knock it all off my work table in the hopes it will shatter.

Prosper is my metal purities tester. He likes the taste of some metals so much I can guess the content of a piece just by if he wants to eat it or not. (All cat slobber is thoroughly removed!)

Hi, welcome to the shop! I'm a person in Melbourne with an interest in reclaiming and reusing things that might not be of value to anyone else, like broken old watches and jewelry. I believe this is the true heart of steampunk stuff: reusing and making do (and looking pretty badass in the process) rather than using new materials which create more waste and are more expensive. Steampunk should be accessible and inexpensive. If you have further questions about what steampunk is and is not, please check here: http://www.regretsy.com/category/not-remotely-steampunk/

I try to take photos under the best conditions, but sometimes I'm too eager to wait out bad weather. Sunlight shows off my work best and isn't always available. If an item looks especially dark or dingy, please read the description--I try to make note of any rust or interesting patinas on the metal and describe the colour of the metal. If you want better or additional photos, please just ask! I will do my best to accomodate you quickly.

I welcome orders of any size to anywhere. I'm possibly interested in consignment or wholesale orders, if the fit is right. Feel free to drop me a convo and we'll see.

Accepted payment methods

  • Pay with Visa
  • Pay with Master Card
  • Pay with American Express
  • Pay with Discover
  • Pay with PayPal
  • Other Method
Payment
Paypal is my preferred method. Australian buyers can convo me if you would prefer a bank transfer, and I will accept checks and money orders from American buyers (you MUST convo me for details, and I don't ship until they have cleared). Melburnian buyers are welcome to pay in cash if we have arranged a pick-up. All payments must be made within 7 days of purchase unless pre-arranged with me. If you need to cancel your order after purchasing and before I have marked your item as shipped, please convo me and we'll work something out.
Shipping
I ship via AusPost; depending on the size and weight of your purchase, it may be sent a couple of different ways. Shipping out of Australia can be pricey, so I've chosen the slowest method as the base price unless otherwise indicated. I'm happy to ship anywhere, and if you're in Melbourne you're welcome to meet me in the cbd or at the Rose St. Artist's Market for a free pick up and pay in cash (convo for details).

I try to ship all orders within 4-5 days of purchase (barring holidays and weekends), and will contact buyers or leave a shop announcement if it will be longer.
Refunds and Exchanges
If your item arrives broken or damaged, please let me know (and take photos!) right away, so I can submit a claim with the postal service. If it is the wrong item, please let me know so I can work out an appropriate action. If you just don't like it, I apologize, but caveat emptor.
Additional policies and FAQs
I am happy to do custom orders if you can tell me what it is you are after and it is within my scope. I guarantee that the item will come to you as shown, with obvious exceptions for custom-made or partially customized items.
