About

honestly, We just love pretty things.

Hi there, and welcome to stella & lu! We hope you find what you're looking for.

Jes & Whitnie became fast, close friends in the spring of 2014 when Whitnie was expecting her first babe, Hannah (Stella!), and Jes had two boys at home, Linus, and an infant, Luca (Lu!). Jes & Whit loved to craft, attend flea markets, re-purpose things, and drink coffee together. We desperately felt a need for cute, snuggly, trendy baby bedding that worked for our littles and that we loved! We both got out our sewing machines, and started making loveys and blankets for Stella & Lu (our kiddos), and for several friends. Flash forward a few months, and after several lovey prototypes, we found the one we loved the most: the most vibrant minky print, the softest faux fur backing, and one ribbon at the corner for babies to hold onto! Eventually, we decided to bring our creativity to all of you!

These days, you can find Jes at a ballgame or three of her boys, or working her full time accounting job when she's not working on Stella & Lu. She still loves coffee.

When Whitnie isn't doing Stella & Lu, she's parenting her two young girls at home, or helping her husband with their hogs and farm!

By far, our favorite part of the process is helping you design the perfect item for your little, and seeing them snuggling it. We love, love choosing fabric to sew with, and our styles are all over. We love florals, vintage feminine, neutral, bold colors, and patterns! We just love it all! And this lets us sew it all!

Follow us over on instagram @stella.and.lu or on facebook Stella and Lu - its nice there, we'd love to be your friend.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

Yes. We do customs. We love them. Purchase our Custom Pieced, Adult, or Baby Blanket listings! Or our custom Crib Sheet, Changing Pad Cover or Boppy Cover listings! Or our custom Lovey Listing! And we will get to work ✨

Care instructions

Please wash in cold, regular cycle. We recommend using a gentle and phosphate free laundry soap. Air dry before use. Never iron minky or faux fur. Always be sure you feel your item is safe before letting your babe snuggle it.

This is especially important for items backed in faux llama.

What is a lovey?

A lovey is a smaller blanket. Size can vary, but we typically do 17x17 inches. We sew 1 ribbon at a corner, to make a pretty loop for little fingers to touch and hold, or to easily attach. Lovey's are perfect to stash in the diaper bag and for little's to carry everywhere because they are smaller. If you have any more questions, or want to see them in use, just ask!

Shipping Troubles?

Unfortunately, we cannot control the Postal Service. Once an item leaves my shop, we are not responsible for it, whether it becomes lost, damaged, or takes a detour through the National Park System. However, if you have an issue, please (please!) let us know. We don't want you to be totally bummed, and we can try to come to a resolution together!

Sales Tax

All Iowa residents must pay sales tax. Bummer, we know.

Safety

Please use your best discretion when giving a Stella & Lu item to your babe, or using it around your babe. We always recommend following safety standards, and being aware of the risk of SIDS, and adhering to the advice of your pediatrician on care and proper sleep safety. Stella & Lu is not responsible for injuries sustained while using our product. Always, always be sure you feel any item is safe before letting your babe use it.

If your faux llama has been damaged due to mis-use or improper care techniques and is very stiff and creates "loops," we highly recommend no longer using the item. This is an extreme case!

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

We do not. Because our shop can create truly custom pieces, from print selection, backing selection, and ribbon selection, we cannot accept returns or exchanges. We are sorry!

Can I change the print that I have ordered?

After 24 hours, we cannot allow items to be swamped out or prints to be changed, as we have already began ordering the fabric that is needed for your order.

Will my faux llama backing become matted, or stiff, after use?

When using the proper care techniques, listed in each description, our FAQ section, on each card and tag attached to the item - no. Your faux llama should remain nice and soft for a long time. We have several personal items in our household backed in faux llama that is one+ years old and still is soft as ever!

When using a gentle wash cycle, warm wash cycles, drying in dryer, or using a fabric softener - those are things that can harm the llama. And we strongly do not recommend doing those things.

Keep in mind, with each use and wash, fabric does have a tendency to change. Especially thicker piled fabric like faux llama or frosted fur.
