World class lapidary producing exquisite polished stones!

My lapidary shop started in the wake of a horrible tragedy when I lost my father to an accident when I was in my 20's. In packing up what had been my childhood home in Oregon I came across some long buried obsidian and thundereggs that we had gathered and placed around a flower bed. I decided to take them with me and a month later picked up my first lapidary gear. Working with the stones was therapeutic and gave me something new to focus on. I dabbled in all things lapidary from preparing fossils to grinding spheres and cutting cabochons, but over time my passions focused on obtaining perfect mirror polishes on stones that were largely in their otherwise natural state. I found the window that a single cut into an often unassuming gemstone to provide a sense of wonder that has remained with me for the last 30 years! It wasn't long before my Colorado garage was filled with lapidary equipment. As an engineer in high tech I obsessed over obtaining the finest finish I could possibly coax from gem grade stones. In time I was producing what I knew to be the best finishes I'd ever seen on lapidary grade stone and I was fortunate that the internet and online marketplaces were popping up so that I could share my work. My career eventually brought me back to Oregon and the Pacific Northwest where my shop grew considerably, eventually spanning two locations and filling over 4,000 square feet of manufacturing space. I built much of the equipment that now produces the stones you see here. My wife, Sally, has assisted in what she insisted could no longer be called a hobby once the first forklift joined the effort. She has been my indispensable partner as we continued to grow and perfect our craft, both in production and in shipping our work to collectors and decorators all over the world. My passion has long been petrified wood and it was Sally that came up with the name Sticks in Stones to describe our unique offerings. We also enjoy cutting agates and jaspers and have traveled to some of the most distant corners of the planet in search of unique, high quality stones that we can prepare with our finish back in our shop. I retired from my tech career a few years ago and we now both work exclusively at making Sticks in Stones the best source of collectible lapidary art you'll find anywhere. We appreciate you checking out or work and hope that we'll be able to add you to the community of friends and collectors we trade with all over the world!
