Thanks for your interest in StitchWits! I hope you share my joy in reproducing classic crochet and embroideries and adapting them to new materials, colors, and ideas. I've been collecting mottoes and old and new charts for decades, and love that Etsy gives me a way to share them with you and to incorporate your ideas that you may not have time to execute. My favorite projects are collaborations, whether with forbear needleworkers — or you.

I prefer mottoes to complex pictorial embroidery, and all of my own projects are done in natural fibers, as specified in the product descriptions. You can specify other materials, but I do not knit or crochet in acrylic in the New Jersey summer. If you've been here, you'll understand.

StitchWits products are made in a nonsmoking household with three cats who respect "my toys," but want to share my lap. All garments and crocheted items are washed just before shipping.

Payment
Please remit by PayPal, including shipping and sales tax, when we've agreed on customization.

New Jersey customers must include 7% sales tax except on garments; all NJ customers must pay the tax on shipping (I know). International orders must include all import customs and declarations.

If you order a custom item and change your mind, I'll refund shipping, but not the cost of specially ordered materials or the percentage of the work I've completed; I'll send you a photo and accounting so you can consider whether to cancel or let me finish.
Shipping
All purchases ship on the next U.S. Postal Service business day after completion if made to order, or after receipt of payment for ready-made and vintage.

Items ordered for USPS Priority Mail are shipped in new USPS flat-rate envelopes or boxes. Items ordered for First Class mail may be shipped in reused containers. Unless specified in the listing, gift wrapping is available at cost in the form of "Redi-Post" packaging as sold by the USPS; specify the color or holiday theme, and we'll set it up in the made-to-order convo.

Express Mail or other shipping methods, as well as tracking and insurance, can be arranged at cost. We'll talk.
Refunds and Exchanges
Vintage ready-made and items customized as to colors, fonts or addition/omission of graphic elements may be returned for full refund (customer pays shipping both ways) as long as they remain in new, salable condition. Items customized with names, dates, or other personal information are not eligible for refunds.
Additional policies and FAQs
All new designs and reimagined or repurposed vintage ones are offered made to order. Feel free to change colors, yarns, and design details, or to swap counted-cross and filet techniques. I'll even come up with something just for you. My existing library of designs and design elements goes back to the mid-19th century and is open ended to designs you might find but would like for me to combine with my own alphabets and images to create a unique item together.

I'm especially eager to learn new mottoes and slogans. In my other life, I'm a writer known for deftly turning cliches to new purposes. I'm also a bit of a Bible scholar and love finding out how translation skews our understanding of Scripture. I am, however, proud of the labels "heretic" and "syncretist." Browse the ideas I have running and tell me something you'd like to see.

Any major change of design, including personalization, will be worked up in a chart and submitted as a pdf file for your approval before I start stitching.

Work time for each item (from our agreement on the specifications to shipping) is included in the item description. If you need a rush order, let me know and we may be able to agree on an adjusted price and schedule.
