About

Hand-Marbled Paper Goods

Paper marbling is a traditional printmaking method where paint gets floated on the surface of thickened water, then lifted off onto a sheet of paper (or fabric).

Marbling is a monoprint process, so each setup only produces one print and therefore every print is unique. I love the chance in it; you can only control the results to a certain extent, so each print is a new chance to play. Marbling is more or less instant gratification, since you can see the results immediately upon printing.

I got interested in marbling after taking an evening workshop. From there, I spent rainy weekends and other down time playing around with it in my apartment, which led to opening my shop. Currently, everything is marbled and made in my apartment in Brooklyn, NY.

The name Stone & Vein comes from the traditional stone pattern in marbling, where the colors that are laid down first are constricted into 'veins,' while the final colors remain in round circles or 'stones.'
