Straight Gauge Studios designs modern bicycle-inspired wall hangings and light fixtures. Our handmade home decor is made from repurposed bicycle parts and each piece is hand "laced" for a unique take on sustainable, modern decor.
Each mandala is made from used bicycle parts. We divert bike wheels from the landfill, clean them, and turn them into unique works of art. Because of their previous lives, please understand that there may be light chipping, pitting, brake wear, and other small areas of wear and tear on the rims used. We think this makes each piece even more special! If you have any questions about wear to the mandala you are interested in, please reach out for more detailed photos if necessary.
Please review my shop policies prior to placing your order for details about turn-around, shipping, refunds, and FAQs.
Please direct inquiries via convo or to martin [at] straightgauge [dot] com.

5 out of 5 starsVery unique! I gave it to my husband as a surprise birthday gift. He loved it especially as he's a avid mountain biker. Martin was quick to respond and sent it well before my husband's birthday. Thank you Martin!

Straight Gauge is reinventing the wheel.
A bike wheel is beautiful and purposeful. A retired or compromised bike wheel may still be beautiful, but it’s original purpose has expired. Repairing these wheels is out of the question, but their wonderful blend of balance and geometry still have the capacity to captivate a much wider audience cyclist and non-cyclist alike.
These wheels would normally be tossed out by bicycle shops and end up in the landfill, but instead, we dismantle, clean, sand, and relace them using traditional wheel building techniques. Spokes are bent and crossed into a design depending on the rim size and length of spokes. Thus, each piece is truly a unique work of art.
Every item Straight Gauge makes celebrates the wheel’s beauty while reinventing it’s future as modern home decor.

SHIPPING COSTS/OVERAGES
Shipping prices are calculated within each Etsy listing. If you are interested in ordering more than one mandala and are curious about shipping multiple pieces together, please contact us for a rate quote.
RECYCLED SHIPPING MATERIALS
Straight Gauge's recycle and repurpose philosophy extends to shipping materials when possible. You may received your order wrapped in previously used (but clean) packing material.
Additional policies and FAQs
All items in the Straight Gauge shop are made from used, recycled bicycle parts. That means the parts have been used on a bike and therefore may show some CHIPPING, STAINING, OXIDATION, and/or OTHER WEAR. I clean and polish each part that I use, but as the nature with used metal parts, please do not expect a perfect, factory-new looking piece. The flaws are a unique part of each piece's charm!
UL INFORMATION
Any light fixture kit in the Straight Gauge shop is made thoughtfully and with great care using UL listed parts from reputable dealers.
DISCLAIMER ABOUT LIGHTING
Each lighting piece is professionally wired prior to shipping. However, as with any electric fixture, please consult with a licensed electrician to ensure proper and safe installation. It is the buyer's responsibility to ensure any lighting is compliant with local and state electrical and/or building code requirements.
Our fixtures are not intended for outdoor use.
